I have here a 1990 240sx hatch, but I believe the handles will work on both hatches and coupes. The key that I got with my car didnt work for the locks on the one door that had a lock so I opted to buy some used ones off of ebay, you can buy them elsewhere as well.

Start by removing the door panel, you can do this by removing the screws behind the handle as well as in the side insert and then sliding the entire peice upwards.Remove this nutRemove this rubber grommetThen this nutThis empty slot is for the rod connecting the door handle to the mechanism in the doorInsert the rod hereThis is for the lock mechanismInsert the other rod from your old handle hereA pic of inside the door, you can see where the lock rod and opening rod and where they connect in the door.Tighten these bolts back downAnd test it out!I know mine is 2 colors but I havent painted anthing yet lol. Test the lock out as well, I had a bit of a problem with the lock working on the passenger side.

A lot of the green and pink clips are easiest if you use an angled pick or a flat blade screwdriver to pop them. They swivel out of the way and you can just pull the rod right out.

I agree the rods pop out of the clips, same for the trunk release / fuel door. Not much of a write up though its just a remove / replace job. But still a million times better then the rear seat removal write-up a while back.

IIRC, you can just swap the lock cylinder and keep your matching door handles.

It should be a nearly identical process for the s14.

Awesome, I am going to replace my door with one that isn't all banged up and rusted in certain places. So, some common sense is all it takes to replace the lock cylinder huh? No special instructions? I looked in the FSM but couldn't find anything, just adjusting procedures.

I did it so long ago(about 4 years) that I don't remember much about it, but anyone with common sence should be able to figure it out.

Sorry for bringing up a thread from the dead (oo it rhymes), but since I want to be able to unlock it with my current keys, I have to replace the new lock cylinder with the old one, but I can't get the metal bracket off without removing those metal plates hiding the screws. This is annoying me SO much. Does anyone have a write-up for (Or is able to help me) replacing the lock cylinder? I think I'm doing something wrong. I have so far broken 2 steak knives... Help?
