Hi Wes,

I just purchased a 1995 Q45T one owner with 98k miles. Beginning the loong arduous task of going through everything to get her right. What is the lowdown on an ECU for the 94 w/tcs? I know there is currently none in production and a search got a million hits but it seems the hits are in posters' profiles...

If the earlier ECUs are good for mod, and plug & play in the 94, I will set about finding a good one for the conversion. By the way I can do the board work if you are swamped or tired.

I have a 240sx KAT convertible and have burned my own proms with my own maps which worked well until the hose leaked at the waste gate - but that is a rather long sad story.

Thanks JNC

I'm a little confused, are 94 Q's covered with these ECU's or only 90-93s? How do we safely ship an ECU to prevent damage? Aren't ECU's extremely fragile? How reliable are the reprogrammed ECUs? Please answer these questions because I am definitely interested.

You can run a 90-93 ECU on your late car.. Ive had a 91 ECU in my 94 for over a year and its fine.

The ECUs are just as reliable as stock.. Nothing to worry about.

ECU's aren't any more fragile than any other electronic device. I'd say even less fragile than your average electronic device like a TV or DVD player. Just wrap it up in bubble wrap, box it up, and ship it.

Wes,

I am interested. I assume that the two positions are 1, stock, and 2, the equivalent of "Fast" as below. Or is the second position different.

Also, how does one switch between the two modes?

Thanks Ken K

Yo: my name is silky and I am a Nicoholic!! Please read up on the posts, the search button is all powerful. Put "NICO ECU" in the search and check it out!!! Stage 2 is default and a bad mofo. Stage 2 can be ran at all times and stage three is a hairy chested biooootch!!! You can get a two way switch at radio shack. I should know, Ive got one for my heated seat rig. Still looking for that drivers side heated seat computer. You are referring to a custom job with many options, talk to Wes about all that. I cant wait to get mine. Yeahya!

"No smog- Shuts off the emissions (EGR) and advances timing to compensate.

Valet- Limits the rpm to 2000

Fast- Timing advance to lean out fuel mixture"

You obviously know little about how a Q engine and ecu works if you are asking for the above.

EGR allows extra advance at cruise, shutting it off would require a timing retard to avoid serious knock!

The flame speed is a function of fuel A/F and you set timing to arrive at 14-16 degrees after TDC with the applied mixture A/F.

EGR only functions over a very narrow rpm range [1500-2500 rpm] when you are at a steady speed..............it is totally shut off at idle and during any even mild acceleration..............all turning it off will do is decrease Highway MPG by at least 2 MPG and cause serious knock and driveability issues. You would need to retard timing advance.

As to 2000 rpm limit that is below TC stall speed so not sure Q would move very well with 1st gear start you would limit top speed to 15 mph and 27 mph in 2nd............when they tried to floor it, it would shut off and need to be recranked........What you want is a top speed limiter not rpm limiter or at least a higher rpm limiter [3,000?]

Like I said before, whoever is interested just send me an email.

Ken- you dont have to have a stock setting for setting 1. Usually, I will probably do stage II and stage III since its just as safe as the stock program and still passes emissions.

You get the ECU with a wire coming out the end.

Can someone tell me what are the options for the ECU?

Because the post by wes says he can make custom ones so what does that mean?

There are a few of us that can help with a custom tune but there are a few standard "plug and play" tunes Wes is offering that do the job nicely for 95% of the Q population (I'm in the other 5%)

wes i still don't know what my available options are. i have a 95 q45 a with a jwt ecu.

can i get an ecu this run? i know this is a 90-93 run, but i want to know if they will work on a 95. i see you had a 91 in a 94, so do you think a 93 will be ok in a 95?

Hi elwesso,

Its Gregory again. I just purchased a 1992 Infiniti Q45 ECM-ECU engine computer board, with traction control. If you inform me where to send it, I will accompany the board with $250? Please send instructions, at your convenience. Gregory

Uhh, don't know if it's appropriate but I've got a '94 ECU with TCS for my '92. If anyone gets a 90-93 ECU done for their 94-95 and would like to trade, I'm game.

Don't really know if there's a benefit to having the ECU closest to your model year but for the peace of mind, I'm willing to help. Keith told me that I wouldn't have any issues running the 94' NICO in place of my OEM '92.

Frank- I dont think I can do anything with your JWT ECU.. Sorry...

For everyone else I am going to be doing my work probably in a couple weeks, so if you want one get one now.. It would really make my life easier.

And to further clarify, we can do 94-95 CARS with 90-93 ECUs, just not 94 ECU right now. I am getting *very* close to a solution.

IF anyone needs anything the best way is to call or email me.

NICE, thanks drew!

I am hoping to do a run next week of the batch I have so I'd really be nice if I could sneak a few more in so I dont have to setup all my equipment again for like one person.

I'd love to get my sticky paws on an upgraded ECU. Please send me all pertinent info. I have a 1992 Q45 ( I believe the build date was 03/92 ).

If he sends you ALL pertinent info I would sugest he charge you a few hundred dollars extra vs your spending your time and energy researching the history, effects, and benefits of the NICO ECU reprogram, as has been fully delineated for years on our forum.

This is more of a low cost SERVICE for NICO members than a serious profit making enterprise..............thus the do it in sparetime/basement nature.

If you wish to deal with a for profit full service enterprise with a fancy web site why not pay JWT the $595 they charge:

http://www.jimwolftechnology.c...D=165

Not meaning to sound rough to new members but pretty fully described previously including you must supply an ecu and cost is $250 for a 2 way 90-93 NICO ECU.
