Today went to the new Nissan Dealer close by, it was actually a previous dealer which just moved to a better looking and better placed area.

I was able to Test drive a yellow auto 370z, just about as feminine as you can get..yeah that thing flies. 0_0

And I decided to pick up a shiftknob since the attractive lady at the service parts deck wore a mini skirt to work.

difficulty rating: easier than farting.

Time spent- roughly 3-5 minutesmost of the time spent is spinning the knobs on and off the threads.

Richies (Tools) Needed:

Replacement Shiftknob of your choiceFlat head screwdriver. Some tape (unless you dont care about microscopic dings, i don't)A ViceGripFingers and Thumbs.one Nissan 350z. (not optional)

apologize for the vignetting on the pictures, i bought a new wideangle lens and am testing it out.

Pry open the shift console with a flathead, i marked the sweet spots where the clips are near in blue tape.

Once the clips have been detached, go ahead and pull towards you to release and free the other clips, thus removing the console. Yeah man, check out my watch. It doubles as a calculator and a remote control for TV's and anything infra red.

You'll notice a cotton ball under the boot, leave it be. You'll only be working with whats above that. now, you'll see the part which the vice grip has to clamp onto. Most people use radiator hose so it grips better along with the vicegrip. Although; there is already a rubber wrapped around the stem. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UNSCREW THE KNOB WITHOUT SECURING THE SHIFT STEM WITHOUT THE VICE GRIP, you can damage your transmission.

Now with the firmest setting on the vice grip, clamp it and make sure the grip is strong enough so the stem isn't going anywhere. The only thing you want moving is the shiftknob.Clamp vicegrips, and twist away. (some may see that it tough as balls to remove because of the use of threadlock from the factory. Mine twisted right off with minimal effort and torque..think Honda.)

voila.

Heres the knob and the bushing it comes with. Simple design, comfortable fit.

What your going to wanna do is have the cup facing upwards towards the knob before you thread it on.

Thread your new digz on, pop the console back in place and enjoy.

You can also get the boot off without using a flathead by grabbing the inside part of the "aluminum ring" around the boot and popping it up from the bottom. It might minimize chances of scratching your plastic center console. *edit*Supplemental Pix (without the use of a flathead driver)Grab inside of the aluminum ring....Gently pop it out...

Like what Soup posted, it is very important that you use a vice grip or similar tool to hold the shifter in a stationary position as you apply torque to it. This prevents damage to your shift linkage.

Good Post! Most people underestimate the importance of doing this process the right way. As simple as it may sound, there are things that can go wrong if crucial steps are overlooked.

I don't wanna sound arrogant but your dash trim is very worn down. I've had my Z for almost a year now but I've taken great care of its appearance. I know these are cheap materials, hopefully better in the 370Z, but still... seems very worn.

Yeah it sucks, thats how i got it. I might just get yet another overlay to cover it up or by another console if I could find one.

I don't worry too much about it, i'll eventually end up with a nismo Z hopefully in the not too distant future.

Looks like an easy mod. I think I'm going to try this also.

Hey XJM, where did you get that Nismo shift sticker thing on your console? Did that come factory?

It looks like the sticker that comes with the shift knob when you buy it...or at least mine did.

Cool, I was wondering b/c it didn't look like you had an aftermarket shifter. Thought you just bought that piece by itself.

regular wear and tear, and that living in florida can cook your interior to a nice healthy 120 degrees. Most of that happened around the time of winter, (well winter for you other guys)

That really sucks man! Do you have tint on your car? If its dark enough like mine it should help some...I would think.

Yeah, it does have tint but its probably close to like 50%.

I'd like to remove it all though since tint has become a major trend factor,

it Does but you can tell that it wouldn't last too long.

Rather just leave it off altogether or stick it somewhere on the shift console.
