Just a graphic illustration.
Supports, critical...
Moment is torque. Ever seen the stick and rock example where the rock is too heavy to pick up? But if you prop a stick under it and push the stick against a object using leverage and you can pick up the rock with little force.
Same concept, you didn't support the bottom where most of the force. So the stress has to be multiplied the distance it has to travel where the support exists.
Pushing Against vs Moving it.
Ever notice why most plows are angled to one side? It's because it's meant to move the snow off to the side and move on to new snow to be moved.
Your design, as you see I drew red dots at the end of the arrows. That means it stopped. It has no where to go and begin to populate in front of the plow. Then more and more piles up. You reach a point where you can't push any more....
So, angle blade will let you move the snow with a lot less effort and effectively.
The idea of DIY is to research your options. Understand what you are dealing with on a general level. No need to reinvent the wheel when someone has done it already. You can gain valuable experience from them and make a possibly better wheel due to your acquisition of knowledge.
