well after my oil pump went out and seeing the cost of new front covers. im not one to trust used critical parts like this especially when i can get the parts cheaper then used front covers. I ordered all my parts from courtesy nissan cost me a grand total of 50.00 and some change shipped. im not going to go into removing the front cover since its covered so many times all ready.

you will need the following tools and parts to preform this job.tools:-freezeoff-12mm socket-cresent wrench-phillips head screwdriver ( both standard and impact)

parts:-oil pump gears (15020-S13001)-valve relief regulator ( 15132-S13001)- oil hat seal (15066-S13007 )

locate the oil pump cover and spray the four phillips head screws and 2 12mm bolts with the freeze off , pb blaster, wd 40 what ever you use

after that locate the regulator cap that looks like this and crack it with the cressent wrench or vise grips.

next you want to take your impact screwdriver and break free the 4-phillips head screws loose. if youve never used a impact screwdriver very easy place it on the screw and hit the end with the hammer.

followed by removing the 2 12mm bolts

after you have those take your cressent wrench and finish removing the regulator set screw when you remove it this will pop out at first just the spring will pop out you will need to stick a pick in the hole to get the plunger to come out.

once you have all the above done your front cover will look like this pull it off and theres the gears staring right at you

remove the two gears and replace them with the new nissan gears.

put the cover back on and torque the philips head to 3 ftlbs and the 2-12mm bolts to 5lbs

now its time to assemble the regulator

when you open the bag containg the parts you get this 2-spring seats1-regulator spring1-retaining screw and washer 1-plunger

take 1 of the spring seats and place it in the bottom of the retaining screw cap. followed by the spring. put the other spring seat in the plunger and place it on to the spring luberacate the whole assembly with oil.

the assembled valve

insert the new valve assembly and tigten the retaining screw to 30 ft pounds

once you do that you are done. i like to then pour some oil threw the strainer pick up hole and rotate the pump by hand for a couple of reveloutions and make sure the oil comes out the output hole

Why didnt you clean any of that up lol? paint thinner/parts cleaner works wonders. Sometimes I tend to be anal about cleaning parts though.

yea you put it on the regulator cap just unscrew the part that holds the spring in and place a thinner washer on there or you could go to like ace or someplace and get a spring of the same lenght and diamiter just with a little more pressure

I would have gone through the steps of checking clearances to be on the safe side. It's a simple process of using some feeler gauges and comparing them with Nissan's standards in the FSM

its pretty straight foward......remove valve cover, remove dizzy, remove upper cover, ramove oil pan, and remove crank pulley, then remove the front lower cover. just look at it and youll figure it out. i replaced mine without an fsm with my engine in my car and outside in the cold.

Will this help at all with start-up noise? I never could figure it out. I start the car (s13 sr20) after a couple days, and for the first second of start-up there is a small rattle that comes from the motor but goes away after, what I'm assuming, is oil reaches the part that's making all the racket.

I've tried Lucas Oil Treatment which makes the oil more/less viscous. You make it seem real easy in this write up. How long did it take you, minus picture taking time?

its the clearance in your buckets. the shims on them wear over time and on startup im guessing they make a little more noise right away cause the oil has to get up to the head.
