The issue is the differential case which is contained inside the differential carrier (AKA gear carrier, or "pumpkin"). The case, AFAIK, is the component that either makes it "open" or "LSD."
The more I research it points that this is the item that determines open differential or limited slip.
In the 350Z, the base model is open differential with an R200 carrier. These can be upgraded by replacing the 2-pinion case to an LSD case. The M45 uses the R200 carrier with an open differential case.
