Hi Wes,

It's been awhile, hope your Qs are doing fine. My are OK, the 94 is having little issues and probably should be replaced. Been looking on autotrader.

Here's the latest...

Went to clean the snow off the car yesterday and before turning the defrost on I heard the fan. Didn't think much of it, but now realize it is always on, no matter if the Heating Airco system is shut off. Must be a stuck relay. It will turn off when the ignition is fully off, but it will stay on when the ignition is turned a 1/4 turn for auxiliary power.

Has anyone experienced this? Where are the relays? Any advice would be great!

Peter B.

Same problem with my '96 Q. Easy fix. Mine fixed by replacing the fan blower resistor.

1. Does it run at maximum motor speed, or something slower than that?

2. Does it shut off when you shut off the heater/AC/defroster completely, or does it run all the time the ignition switch is on?

Thanks everyone, where is the fan blower resistor located?

Skibane... it runs all the time and at med level. With the heater/ac/defrostor completely off.. it still runs.

The resistor, fan and relays are all located behind the glovebox. 2 bolts are revealed behind the trim piece under the glovebox, and 2 more up top behind little caps. From there everything is easy access.

Usually when the blower resistor goes out that means the fan is wearing out and drawing more current than it should. Just something to keep in mind.

Thanks Wes!

As soon as the blizzard is over and things dry up a little I'll do it.

I am trying ever little thing to hold on to the 94 as the daily driver. I truly love this car. Still have the 96 garage queen (black on black that smells new inside). Drove a Kia Soul in Oct and it is on the short list if I can't find a good replacement Q (say it aint so).

I hesitated on a low mileage garaged Fla car last year. I am in the market for a 95 or 96... soonish.

Drive the '96 Q to San Francisco and I'll give you 7 grand for it, seriously.

Yes, that pretty much looks like it.
iirc, this is the p/n you seek: AMPLIFIER, FAN INF#27761-85E01
it is common with another nissan product (a32 maybe--or was it the pathy)?
I might still have one of the obsolete NEC transistors.

See this thread:

How To Fix Your Fan Amplifier

(The missing photos on the first page of the thread have been re-hosted on page 5).

What you're describing doesn't sound like a fan amplifier problem - When the amp fails, the fan motor either runs at full speed all the time (if the fan amp is internally shorted), or doesn't run at all (if the fan amp has opened up). Your motor running at half speed doesn't fit either of those descriptions.

I've had good luck with www.orderinfinitiparts.com

They're located in Charlotte, NC - so I get stuff pretty much next day with FedEx Ground. I'd probably pick based on location at this point... customer service is basically non-existent in the online parts world these days.
