I use to regularly get 23-27 city & highway (Bronx & Bronx to Newark), since I cut out the Newark run once a week my mpg can't see past 11. That drop is way too drastic for me to believe its only do to me eliminating that trip. I would think that by me eliminating that trip I would drop to maybe 15-18. Can the gas company have anything to do with it? Not gas grade...strictly the company. I use nothing except Sunoco premium, I've been told by a few people bp is the way to go. Also note, by Bronx trips really don't involve that much stop and go.

i think all premium 93 octane is the same. i used to believe exon is the best, then i switched over to bj's gas and i (the car) feel the same. the only noticeable different is my wallet is still intact after the pump :D

city driving is a b!tc ch in this car. i blamed the high @$$ happy revving 5 spd transmission this car has. i would love to have the new 7 or 8 speed that my brother's lex LS has. AWESOME for MPG.

I definitely get better mileage with Shell 93 than BP 93, and I definitely get better mileage with Country Mark 93 than Shell 93. In previous mileage threads, http://www.toptiergas.com/ has been referenced. Click on retailers and you will see that BP and Sunoco are not on the list (Sunoco Canada used to be, so apparently the list is maintained).

ETA: Note that I don't know whether or not detergent has much to do with mileage, especially not from tank to tank (IE, manufacturer recommended amounts of detergents may help over time, but not as soon as you fill your tank). As such, these may not be the best places for mileage, but should be best for your engine. Additionally, I live near the Country Mark refineries, and Country Mark uses only US sourced oil. Either of these things could have to do with the better mileage (the oil not being out of the ground as long before it is refined or the gasoline not being stored as long before it is pumped and used), but I'm only thinking aloud, not claiming to be an expert..

A comment for purposes of explaining the above. I can confirm that the list is up-to-date, at least as it relates to Canada. The reason Sunoco Canada is no longer on the list is that the Sunoco brand in Canada was the retail brand of Suncor Energy of Calgary, not Sunoco Inc. of Philadelphia. Sun Oil sold off its Suncor Division in 1995 and it is now a separate Canadian company. Suncor bought Petro-Canada three years ago. Since Petro-Canada had the larger retail presence, by far, Suncor decided to retain the Petro-Canada brand as its downstream retail division. It has since rebranded any existing Sunoco stations to Petro-Canada (although some Petro-Canada and Sunoco stations were sold to Husky Oil as part of the Competition Bureau's conditions for the purchase). The advantage to us here in Canada is more availability of high-octane gas, since virtually all Petro-Canada stations now carry 94-octane. Petro-Canada's highest previous octane was 91.

Just in case anybody cares!! ;)

I have a 2007 M35X, and live in Boston. In mostly city driving, I am averaging 15 mpg. On the highway, I have never gotten better than 22 mpg. This is with regular gasoline. I have filled up with 93 octane in the past and had no measurable increase in mpg.

My only mod is a K&N air filter, but I am planning a full exhaust upgrade soon: new Y pipe, Megan mid pipe and cat-back. Not sure if the increased airflow will do anything for mpg.

I am also considering the UPREV upgrade - for the obvious power gains. I am not expecting the UPREV to improve my MPG, but using the ECO mode should help with my city MPG. Can anyone confirm this?

Anyone claiming to get 30-40 MPG is full of it. With a capacity of 17 gallons, that would translate to 510-680 miles per tank. It would display a number like this in the 'Distance to Empty' area in the display if that MPG figure were accurate. I don't think there's any way a 5-speed V6 with 290 HP can propel a two ton car and get 30+ MPG. Not without a supercharger or other serious mods......

MPG:
I have a 2007 M35 and I also avge between 16-17 mpg in mixed driving (most of it stop & go). On long trips like my last one from FL up to MD and back, I got 25 - 26 mpg at avge speeds between 70-75mph. I never see mileage that high unless its a long uninterrupted trip with cruise control ON. On shorter hwy trips I avge about 22-23 mpg and it quickly drops back to 16-17 mpg after I'm on surface streets. I believe my M has a 20 gal fuel tank.

TIRES:
I have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires - 245/45/18's and they are inflated to 35psi. No mods to the suspension, exhaust, or intake. Nothing in my trunk aside from a rarely used car cover and a tote with a few tools and windscreen washer fluid.
