Here's something a little different for us - We're joining a local Datsun collector on his journey across the country to retrieve and DRIVE HOME in a 40-year old unrestored Datsun 510.

Check out the article, check the route, share the link, and make plans to catch up with Randy on his epic journey!

This is so cool and he will be passing right by Columbus. Hey Randy, If you need any assistance or help when you are near Columbus, let me know. I might try and hook up for an escort with my Z. I'll be watching this thread and the article for updates.

I wonder how far Jesda and Ian are from Springfield? If Randy gets to meet both of them on their home turf, he might come back a changed man :chuckle:

Thanks for the interest and offers. Best way to hook up and run part of the route with us is to e-mail me on the route, at [email protected] I'll be checking my email regularly. When you email me, I'll send back my cell number so we can coordinate a meet up spot. Would be cool to meet you along the way. Who knows, I may even need someone to turn a wrench (hope not).

We'll be tracking every gallon of gas used and calculating fuel economy from coast to coast. The car is completely stock as far as the powertrain, with an automatic on the floor, 1600 motor with factory carburetor and a fresh tune up. We'll be taking freeways for almost the entire trip and I'd guess we will be traveling 65mph most of the time. So...what would you guess our average fuel economy will be for the trip??? I'll think of something creative for the one who guesses closest.

Hey Randy
I'm sad to say that my plans have changed and I'm going to have to stay in Colorado one more day, which means I'm going to miss your car passing through Columbus on Friday. I'm bummed :frown:
Do you know the approximate time you will be around Columbus?

Good to talk with you yesterday and find you've only had a minor fuel filter cloggage

Is it just me, or does the link to the trip no longer work? Edit: works now.

Funny about the fuel filter, I suggested to Randy that he bring an extra just before he left.

I talked to Randy this morning and they were heading toward St. Louis. Said things were going well. I haven't seen an update online anywhere yet? He mentioned the car was running pretty good, they are cruising around 70 mph with it and I think he said he was getting around 26+ mpg. I'm looking forward to reading more about the trip.

Hi WDRacing,
Thanks for the update. Its fun to read about it as it happens! What a cool trip. 26mpg is pretty good for a 43 y/o car.

I had to do some creative editing. I had published part 4, but it was actually part 5. So I edited the titles and corrected the order.

I edited the post above, but I figured I'd make another post with the updated links.

Here is part 4.

Here is part 5.

Here is part 6.
