first off, the xbox360 absolutely SUCKS at playing dvds. they should be ashamed.

with two extra old computers i made a media server.
im noticing tearing on the tv screen, dont think it does it on the computer monitor.

pentium 4 2.8mhz
750 mb ddr memory
geforce 5200 with 128 mb
2tb storage
ubuntu server.

should i just scrap the project and buy a blu ray player?

The FAQ mentions choppiness could be caused by DMA being disabled for your drive. Check it out.

Wait a minute! Stop using VLC!

It does not support Hardware Acceleration. So you're putting all the stress on your processor.

Use WMP11

To write you can use Toaster. Not sure on reading though. There may be a version of Daemon Tools for Linux

get PowerISO or Magic ISO and mount the iso file then play it as if the DVD is in the drive. i would also make sure all driver are updated for your gfx card and use software that supports hardware acceleration such as cyberlink or wmp.

please beef up your onboard RAM

also, sell your xbox on ebay and get a ps3. blu ray and streaming netflix? cmon now....
