Crankshaft pulley or Timing chain??????

So im getting a squeaking/faint grinding type sound coming from where the crankshaft pulley is. I removed both belts and started the truck up and thats where the annoying sound is coming from. A mechanic i took it to says its my timing chain, except i dont hear any clicking sound. I thought timing chains make a clicking type sound when they are stretched or the tensioners are bad? Ive kept up with the regular maintenence on the truck and it only has 101000 miles! Is it possible that it is the timing chain? Any info would be great. Thanks
