Among the many problems my car has, One of the more important ones is this one. My batteries negative terminal constantly has corrosion build up (Green dust like). I have tried cleaning it several times and I have no doubt this is causing electrical problems so I need this to stop.

I called the dealer and got a part number for the negative battery cable (Ground). The part number is: 24080-60U00 at a price of $71.07 (Less shipping). But I forgot to ask what that includes because from the description it only sounds like its the cable and terminal connector but it needs to be spliced into the harness.

The bottom right connector on this picture also know as (AKA) N5 is the negative (Ground) battery terminal connector.

I will call another dealer to see whats included with that part number and I am hoping its the entire harness. I really don't want to splice into anything (For all that know me).

I will also take a picture of the corrosion for all to see. What I need most this year is to learn to distance myself from my car. I fear I care too much for it.

Have you tried using some dielectric grease on that mother after you cleaned it up, and prior to reassembly? Get your Slime on.

check it....http://www.buzzle.com/articles/battery- ... osion.html

I used dielectric grease on the MAF sensor connector once. But due to my location the grease turns green and hardens up into a powdery substance. So I can only assume the same would happen if I placed that on the battery. The corrosion takes a long time to build up and I am going to clean it tomorrow (AGAIN!!!).

I once entertained the idea of getting a gold or platinum plated (Plated?) battery terminal for the negative side, Because that is the only side that builds up corrosion. But I am so tightly wound around the idea of keeping this car stock looking.

Thanks Craig, Santa brought me something fantastic this year. But like me you all have to wait and see!

Even if you get brand new cables/terminals the problem will come back over and over because.........it is the fault of the battery in your car- what happens is the battery acid vents{as a gas} and seeps around the battery post where it exits the battery {due to a failed seal around the battery post} and builds up corrosion where the 2 metals meet { the battery post and the cable terminal}.

This happened to every single genuine Infiniti battery I ever had in the Q {4 of them if I recall correctly} I installed a AGM Odyssey battery 30 months ago and have never needed to clean the connection, it remains perfect - the AGM type batteries are not acid flooded like conventional batteries and this I believe made all the difference

Good to see you back on here!

I use the $1 treated anti-corrosion felt washers from Wal-Mart. Usually re-use them from battery to battery. I'd just clean it up and try that - I've never a problem with them.

There is also a red corrosion preventative spray that you apply after you clean away the corrosion and re-attached the negative lead. Simply spray the terminal to seal the metals from the acid rich atmosphere.

BTW the proper method of cleaning the green corrosion is to mix baking soda and water and apply with a throw away brush. After the corrosion melts away, rinse down the area let let dry.

This is a Costco battery and this is the second time this happened with this brand battery. The previous battery was a NTB (OEM on Infiniti's) and I never had any problems with it. But I got a Costco battery because of the warranty they gave with them. Costco does carry Optima brand batteries and I will go today to take a gander (Funny word, Gander) at them.

I tired those And they did nothing for me.

I tried the spray and that also did nothing and the terminals were clean as can be, And I used 1000 Q-tips to clean the rear door checks, front air vents and more on my car.

I've always used petroleum jelly, good old vaseline, on my terminals after cleaning them up and they always stay clean after that. As that Frank's Red Hot old lady says, "I put that sh*t on everything".....lol.
BTW, the negative battery cable is one long piece that connects to the battery, screws onto the frame with one #10 bolt(midpoint of the cable) and the other end bolts to the alternator bracket, with a #12 bolt. That's all there is to it, no splicing into any harness. I just totally removed mine while changing my alternator yesterday, so I'm sure of it.

Thanks, I knew the Service Manual was wrong once again!

I dont see how the FSM is wrong there.. It just shows that wire going into a bundle, if you're replacing an entire wire you should never need to splice it, you can just undo it from the bundles and replace the length.
