Greetings all,

I had to replace coolant in both Q's and the constant removal of coolant filler cap for checking & rechecking made them fail - they were probably on their way out anyway hence the failure....

infinitiguy kindly helped me out with the part numbers for replacement....

Prod.M/Y:1291- 21430-1P105-
Prod.M/Y:0889-0790 and Prod.M/Y:0790-1291 21430-60U00-

However, i wanted to source 4 caps - two which i needed, 2 for spare & one for my brothers car - adds up @$16 each!

Thru some research & trial & error, I found stant cap part number 10264 - can be had for 3-6 bucks at your local aftermarket shop. I fitted to my run around 158k beast (i don't care a damn abt it & flogg the crap out of it)- ambient temps were in the 90;s all week, AC pushing out out 50 degree air, no leaks. Coolant level is stable & exactly where i filled too in expansion bottle. Temp gauge exactly where it was before (actually angle looks lower as car now has coolant not water)Maybe that's physiological as i actually did something on car - one board member notices her Q runs faster after oil change LOL
Orig cap would start leaking as soon as car ran up to temp - here within 3- 5 mins as its so hot,,,,

~ just a helper for those of you running on a budget - for those of you officunardos running trailer/garage queens who wont even consider an aftermarket part on their car or taking it on a shopping trip to walmart please don't kill me with your responses of false wisdom/economys

cheers Rob

No complaints here about the OEM cap supplier of choice to automobile manufacturers (foreign names) that also enjoy electricity from the Tennessee Valley Authority.

I used the Stant site to do a parts interchange and found that cap interchanges with the following Infiniti part number :21430 7S001 which applies to 97 and up Infinitis. I don't know why that cap isn't listed for the earlier models as it looks identical.

STANT Part 11227 # OE Type Radiator Cap; Mini Cap (Closed System) - 13 psi (SAE Range 12-16 psi)

Infiniti Q45 - 1990 - 2006

The cap fits a list of other Nissan products also. It seems to be a common cap.

Oh yeah. I'm very familiar with him. Me and him had messaged each other a few times in the past. For a while I thought that he went to a better place because he just stopped and nobody knew what happend until a few months later when he popped back up. I guess he must have grown tired of the Q and backed out all together. I wonder if he still hangs out over at T3 in Georgia? As for righting books, are you serious? If so than I wouldn't mind actually getting my hands on one of them if that's the case.

~ as far as i know he hasnt retired yet so shud still be over at T3 - he bought a G35 added a turbo and last i heard he was advising all on G35 board that they to perform total body/engine/electrical rebuild with every oil change in order to keep things running 'as new' LOL - we go back to 1999 on the yahoo board when believe it or not i bought Q1 for the best part of 30k - what was i smoking??? the last Q i bought - (Q5) cost me $500 :mike

As I recall he almost lost an engine due to a failed cap from his post below. Knowing how Stant is a Just-In-Time (JIT) production inventory management supplier/partner to many new (foreign and domestically owned) vehicle manufacturers, which I'm sure he knows, I doubt he would have anything but good things to say about their caps. The best situation is to change caps a part of a preventative maintenance regimen every 3-5 years.
Q45tech wrote:I had the most severe overheat on Monday when a filler neck cap sprung a leak and pumped the coolant out [9 quarts required and I was stuck on interstate I had to drive 17 miles [in 100F] to next exit [a serious no no but I mentally prepared for $4,000 to swap engine].

A higher being was on my side since so far ok but I changed oil and ATF............................thanks Mobil 1 0w40.

All the rubber [newly changed] hoses are baked and worthless ordering every one that carries coolant for a Sat replacement.

A $5 cap cost me thousands and 3 years off my life during the incident.
