It's been a long time since I did the Consult wiring for my s13... I have tried to use Datascan in my RB20-Hardbody about a year ago, but I rarely got it to connect and it ticked me off. Now I can't even remember what the trick was to make it connect. I remember trying everything from verifying wires, powers, grounds....all the way to reinstalling different drivers/software versions.

Anyway....Another year has gone by and I am ready to give it another try.

I have verified all connections to proper RX, TX, CLK, 12v+, and GROUND. All of them are connected to the proper pins and I have verified most of the proper signals at the consult port.

At the port:

These seem fine.....................

12v = 12v
GROUND = GROUND
RX = 3.95v

but I am curious about the following signals at the consult port..............

TX = .0_v when cranking/running; .00v at key on, non-running

CLK = 4v when ground is on CLK and POS-probe is on 12v. (seems like a ground signal??)

================================================================================

As per software settings:

I am using Datascan 1.3.
My driver shows up under "ports" in device manager and is "working correctly."
It is assigned to COM1 @ 9600 in Datascan AND device manager...I see no reason the software could be at fault.

How can I inspect my cable for proper operation? Without being able to test it, I have no idea if it got fried somehow????

So....anyone got any input on the voltages I listed above or how to test my cable for flaws?? Any other ideas??

Sincerely,

--TJ :wtf2:

After another hour-long-search-fest, I have seen the schematic for building my own cable on the plms website...I ain't no good at that.

More interesting: I read that if I disconnect the rx and tx wires (between the port and the ecu) and connect them (rx and tx) on the back side of the port......that datascan or other software should "connect"??? If there is no change, then "the cable is bad"?? Anyone ever try this?

I am aggravated. All my pins on the consult port have the same signal that they do at the ecu pins. I may not be sure about whether it's the right signal that should be there, but everything is wired right and I have the ECU values AT THE PORT...

I even searched for blazt.biz to check the price of a "good" cable...they are no longer online. PLMS has pricing that is *astericked* with a retail price set in 2007, so I am a bit leery of ordering from there. I don't want another eBay cable unless I KNOWWW who made it, and there aren't that many on eBay anymore

Where the h3ll can I can a cable from these days??!! Anyone got a cheapy-cable (like an emance or other knockoff) that might still work?? I atleast want to know if my cable is the problem :*****((

p.s.

btw...I know this ecu is capable of operating the consult port. I did my own writeup on the exact installation of the consult port on this engine/ecu harness 5 years ago when I put this engine/harness/ecu into my s13.

I took this exact same engine/harness/ecu and put it into my truck and now it doesn't work.

Could be the usb to serial driver problem.

Mine is a single cord with no serial adapter needed. It has USB on one end and Consult plug on the other. It has a small electronic board build into the cable.

I'm having this same issue...anyone know how to ensure whether or not the serial to usb is functioning correctly? I have a Blazt cable that worked once when I used data scan on my brother's 200sx. I've since wired a connector into my RB25 S13 and haven't been able to make it work. I occasionally get an error when I connect the cable that says USB device not recognized/has malfunctioned, and others it works fine, but causes datascan to become unresponsive... :/

Keeping it stupid simple, have you tried using your software/hardware on another normal un-modified OBD1 Nissan? I would try that first just to make sure it isn't just a driver or computer problem with your laptop.

Haha yeah if I knew someone else with a functioning OBDI Nissan I'd do just that lol. That might end up doing the same thing which would still leave me unsure if the cable is shot or if it's a driver/software issue.

Sorry i posted in your other post but that one looked like you wasnt one it for awhile so i reposted in this one. any help would greatly be appreciated.

Hey how are you. im new here and wasnt to sure about what post to get ahold of you on s im trying this one. i hope it isnt to much to ask if i can get your number or txt me at 967-4126 or just post the info and pics on here.

The reason i rather do it by txt is because i rarely get on here and i really wanna get my RB in my truck running.

I have a 1991 nissan hardbody that was originaly a 5 speed ka. IT came with the whole engine harness and ECU. I have already swaped my oil pressure and trans sensors over so my original ka lower harness bolts up exactly. but im having trouble with everything after that.

I know how much of a pain it was and im sure you wouldnt like explaining it all in better detail but i would Reallllllllly appreceiate it and you can pm me on here if this site has that. 1-618-967-4126 is my number again if your having trouble. I can send you pics if you need them. Im really ready to get mine running.
