Hey guys, so i dropped something on my laptop, Right where the hard drive is located and now i am getting serious critical errors and having trouble doing anything when i log in.

I basically think i need a new hd, so my question is how do i clone the one i have now?

If i buy a new hd and and 2 x 2.5" to 3.5" ide adapters and plug both hard drives into a desktop is it possible to just clone the failing laptop drive from the desktop then install the image on the new drive?

Edit: i already opened the laptop to verify the hdd is tight and connected correctly.

It could be many things.

The HDD might not be damaged, it could be the mobo, ram, etc. I would remove the drive and plug it into a working machine and extract all your precious data; once that's done, start fiddling with the PC.

USB HDD dock can go for around ~$12

Unless you feel like opening up a desktop and connect the drive internally.

Pulled the laptop hd out and it is an IDE hard drive (not found in any stores around here anymore) and my processor is an intel celeron, instead of spending the money to fix it i am buying a desktop tomorrow instead i7 FTMFW Thanks for the help though :bigthumb:
