PLEASE NOTE: THIS HEAD GASKET HAS PROVED TO BE PROBLEMATIC ON THE CA18DET.

On some motors they have sealing problem with oil &/ coolant, usually on the exhaust side near the back of the head. It usually leaks right away, or shortly after installation.

If anyone hears about an update regarding this from Cometic, please let me know so that we can update this post.

UPDATE - 2-26-2010Here is the deal. A lot of company's make metal HG's. None, of the other companies have trouble with sealing that the Cometics do. This could be due to a lot of things, one possibly being that the other HG's cost more, and so the people that buy them are more apt to follow the directions explicitly and not cut corners. That being said, Cometic VERY clearly states, that when you install their HG, BOTH the head AND block HAVE to be resurfaced, be perfectly flat, and the surface finish of both the head and block HAS to be 50 RA (Roughness Average) or FINER.

AFAIK, everyone who's followed the instructions provided by Cometic, hasn't had any problems with them sealing.-Copied from a post I just made. The Cometic is fine if you follow the directions, TO THE LETTER!

Is the thicker the better? Since lower compression is generally safer for higher boost.

You should only go thicker to compensate for machining. Otherwise it throws off the quench area of the combustion chamber.
