What you are refering to is happening to me as well. While shifting from R to P or R to D it engages the drive shaft. That clicking is the rear driveshafts locking up against the hubs. There is a slight bit of play between the rear driveshafts and hubs which contributes to the noise. The noise will never go away permanently but you can perform the greasing yourself. If you understand how to remove the rear driveshafts without removing the hubs then this is the easiest approach.

No. I've been driving mine with the click for the last 3 years. It's not going to wear and tear due to the lack of lube. And really Infiniti won't admit to this but they will charge you to perform this TSB and it will only last a couple of years depending on road conditions.

I'm not sure if this applies to X models, but I had my axles serviced (lubed and installed rotated 180 degrees from the original position).
God rid of clicks going into D and R.

How long ago and have they returned?

November of last year and still solid. Cost an hour and half of labor, no charge for the grease or whatever lubricant was used. I went to an independent Nissan/Infiniti mechanic in my area

Cool, so they swapped rear drive shafts too? I've got to try that myself one day. I was told by a number of people that the TSB fix is temporary and the click returns after a few years and depending on environmental conditions could be sooner. It may be worth doing anyway. I found a forum where someone had posted details on how to remove the rear axles without removing the wheel hub. There are 6 or 9 (Can't remember) bolts holding each axle to the differential and simply removing those bolts and the large wheel hub nut will allow you to bang the axles out and down without removing the wheel hubs. While I am in there I would likely use something like permatex disc brake quiet with grease. Grease eventually works its way out the permatex stuff would be stuck there forever!
