CJ's build

Postby SR24DET » Mon May 18, 2009 7:43 pm

LOL ahh its time. So for two years ago I started drifting in the streets with my 240 hatch. Found out about clubfr at the end of the year. Did a few mods to it. Gutted, rims, coilovers, welded diff, intake header, exhaust. I worked well last year and I made it to most of the Ddays. It was slammed all year long. I dropped it 1 more inch the day b4 the last Dday last year. I took it out to see how it felt. I drifted around 2 corners and it died. I looked in the wheel well and it turns out I was rubbing against my harness. SWEET! J/K. So I spent all day and all night redoing the harness, replacing all the fuses and relays. I even changed the ECU and my batter. The b**** didn't start in time. So I missed the last Dday. I was mad. After that a guy came to me with a rust free coupe and asked if I wanted to buy it. After discussing price and it jumping through a 3rd party I got it for $300. It is a rust free coupe that came from FL. It had potential, but was ugly! It had 2 coats of spray paint, red window tint, crome hubcaps, and best of all is the rear window decal. Under the hood was a Ford 302 V8.

It had tons of s*** inside it. It was rediculas. After spending a day cleaning it i could see the floor. I started working on it while I stockpiled parts in my apartment. I took my time and gutted everything out of the entire car. I sold some of it, and threw the rest of it in the dumpster. I looked for dry ice to take out the sound deadening material, but didn't have any luck. So I spent a week with a hammer and a chisel and got out all of the sound deadening. That sucks. After 1 week of finishing this, my friend told me he can get me dry ice  I was so mad I laughed. Next I took off the window tint, but I didn't get it all. I need to get the scussy s*** thats on the window. Im gona try mineral sprits. Then I asked my parents if I can use there garage for some welding. I spend another week, and a million wire wheels and I took all the seems in the entire car down to bare metal. I removed the entire front end, doors, trunk, and sunroof. So at this point theres nothing left but windows. My buddy came over and did the stich welding. If you like it, hes looking to do others cars for cheap.

Theres alot more but im trying not to make this too long. We did the entire car. We did the engine bay, cabin, and trunk. Next was painting. My other buddy came over and the 2 of us went to town. Because there was spray paint we needed to sand it all off. This f***ing sucks! My friend andy and I, and both our girl friends came over and spent a week after work sanding all the spray paint. Then we noticed that this car wasnt so mint. O, it is rust free, but I think it hit a gard rail. There is a s*** ton of dents in the rear end of the car. Well, Andy worked his magic and smoothed it all out. Then we washed it and taped it all off and made a paint booth out of the garage by hanging plastic everywhere. I took some sawbucks and a long ladder and but my doors, bumpers, and lip and set it on the ladder. We stayed up all night and painted it. We finished an hour b4 I had to go to work :D

Some etching <spelling

After smoothing it out

Andy all suited up

He did most the painting, but i did some.

Here is the painting group

Its nice to have perfectly clean painting conditions

LOL. Well, Im super happy with how it turned out. We did 3 coats of paint, 2 coats of clear.

here is the end

So its all painted now. I still have to take off the big dog sticker. Now I need to reassemble. I am pulling everything off my hatch and puting it on my coupe. I also have a full JDM front end conversion. The front was painted. I have a K style bumper and a lip. I have hallogen headlights. GT-R grill

I have a GT-28 turbo kit
Bottom mount manifold
Blitz BOV
FMIC
3" turbo back exhaust with no cat, no resenator, no muffler
Greddy fuel rail
RC 370cc injectors
Z32 fuel filter
Willow wood hydolic ebrake
walbro fuel pump

Off of the hatch im taking my seats, dash, Steering wheel, coilovers, welded diff.

I also have a Cometic headgasket and ARP head studs, but i think im gona wait to install them. Im gona be running a MSII for my EMS. Swich to timming trigger.

Im gona go buy Oots rims so im doing a 5lug conversion too.

The only other thing I didn't mention is I welded the extra holes shut in the engine bay. Im not going to run my custom wiring through the wheel wells. Im going to run them in on the botom of the engine bay on the intake side through a tiny hole. Im rewiring the entire car myself with the bare minimum. Im putting the fuses and relays undre the dash. I did have a roll cage lined up, but my buddy chaged plans on that, so im gona have to look else where and start saving.

Car looks nice. Pretty solid paint job. I've heard if you spray water on the ground around the car, it'll attract a lot of the dust floating around. What other plans you got for it?

very nice! i know that was alot of work.... been there done that with my hatch btw 302 FI too LOL....

and yes, ewok you are correct. puddle up the water on the ground, and that will prevent dirt, dust particles from being blown into your nice paint job.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of paint did you end up using?

I sanded it down through the 2 layers of spray paint to the factory color. Some areas went down to metal. We only primered where we went down to metal. I used cheap Omni paint. I did it this way because it is a drift car, not a show car. This is going to be my drift car, that I will also daily drive in the summer. It will be KA-T. I want around 300whp. I also want to get the weight down to 1 ton. I will have to wait till this winter to chage it. Im gona do the 5lug and buy my friends 5zigen rims. 17x9, 17x10. My back up rims will be MB battles. I am going to have the rims powder coated something crazy. I would like to have all 4 of my fenders professonally rolled, but with the body work around the one it will just brake the bondo, but I still think im going to do it and then fix it. I would like to have this car running in 2-4 weeks max! Its hump time, and not in the fun way.

Awesome start. I'm jealous of the stitch welding. Didn't have time to get into that on mine yet but I will later on down the road.

Nice paint choice. Lol at the original wheel gap and tire size.

O, Im also playing around with the idea to make a custom bracket to mount a second caliper to the rear so the stock one is normal, and the second one is for my hyrolic hand brake. I think this way it will be a little safer, plus when you pull the hand brake, the foot brake doesnt come up on u. Just thinking about it.

Well, last night I removed the driveshaft, exhaust and header, radiator and lines, battery, throttle cable, and a few other things. Tonight I just have a few little things and I will be pulling the motor out tonight! Out of my other car. This weekend im going to mock up the turbo and hopefully reinstall it in the black car on Monday.

I was looking at the back of my engine and I have a few questions. Im gona post some pics tomarrow but I need to learn some things. There are a bounch of lines and s*** on the back of the intake manifold and the head. I know that some of it is a breather for the gastank and fuel, and some is EGR and s***. I also see 2 sensors on the back of the intake mani. Im gona rewire my car and Im not putting on what I dont need so I would like to know what it all is so I can take it off.

Thanks

So here was today. My buddy came over and we mocked up the turbo and the fuel setup. After which I took off the intake mani so I can rip s*** off I dont need. Plus I need to tap and plug the holes in the bottom of the intake so I dont have boost leak.

So the mock up

Exhaust side. Trying to figure out what to do with the oil lines.

Intake side.

Manifold apart

As far as the return line goes I get that. I have a question about the feed line. Do you other KA-T guys get your feed line from the oil sensor, or somewhere else? I noticed a plug in the side of the block right next to where my turbo is. I haven't removed it yet but I was wondering if anyone knew off hand. Is this a oil port, or no?

K, little update time. I tore the engine down. I had the head resurfaced. Then I put on a Cometic head gasket. I also installed ARP head studs. While everything was torn apart I put in a new timeing chain and gaskets.

Here is the engine torn down with my ARP studs.

The head resurfaced. I tried to clean the chambers in the head, but it needs more then brake cleaner to get that s*** off.

Here is the engine assembled. I didnt put the valve cover on yet because that is an extra one. My main one is out being sand blasted and powder coated dark blood red. My rims will be colored the same.

As im posting this im looking at my old picture of my timeing and it makes me worried. In this picture the shiney chain links dont match up with the dots on the sprockets. After I reassembled the engine I matched up all the shiney links with the dots because thats what the rebuild thread on KA-T.org said.

Here is the upper part of my intake manifold. I am tapeing the holes from my PCV. This way I dont have boost leak. I wanted an xcessivemanufactureing intake mani, but that will have to wait till next year.

On the left is the stock pulley. On the right is the timeing trigger. I need to figure out how im going to connect this to the pulley so I can convert to the ford EDIS system for my MSII.

My messy area.

Here is my spare complete torn down engine. I plan to do a complete build on this some day.

I like it. You saved that riced out coupe, that's awesome. The stitch welding looks great, id be interested in that in a few months. Once i find a DD I'm taking my car apart again and I really want this done. What would dude charge for doing the whole car like that?

Keep up the good work man

ok. Ive been doing lots of different stuff. I have ordered a new oil kit for my turbo kit. I also bought a vacume manifold. They both look nice. I havent taken pix of them yet. I got done mondifing the intake manifold. Its getting powdercoated black now. Should get it back soon. Today me and my girl were putting the Walbro fuel pump in.

The gas tank

Here is the Walbro 255 fuel pump I bought from TF

The pump semi installed

I was reading the install instructions and didnt like the fact that I had to cut the wires and crimp them to the harness with these thingys.

So I chose to go a different, this way I know it will work.

I did the power and I was teaching my girl friend how to soder, so had her do the ground.

It ended well with a little heat shrink tube

I sometimes use too much force when I do things.

Here is my valve cover.

Before

After. Its blood red

In the sunlight it has metallic flakes. Its kinda hard to show in a picture.

I also had to dump out all the old unleaded gas. Tomarrow I will install the gas tank in the car.
