So, my cigarette lighter is not working, I replaced the fuse with a 20 amp because the one that was placed in the fuse box before, was a 10 amp and it still is not working. I took apart the radio and shifter bezel to get access to the cigarette lighter connections to see if anything wasn't connected properly and it looked okay. My cigarette lighter used to work fine but now it's dead. Do these cigarette lighters die out or could something else trigger it to not work??? I need this cigarette lighter so I can use my gps, does anyone have any suggestions to what can solve this issue??

I replaced my cigarette lighter and my fuse before mine worked. Are you replacing the fuse under the dash or a fuse in the engine bay? From memory, mine was under the dash.

Replaced the one under the dash, by the drivers side kick panel. I'm thinking that it could be my cigarette lighter, but not sure! Do you know where I can purchase one for a reasonable price??

Wow, new from Nissan 2 years ago was ~$27. Now it's ~$40 pretty much everywhere? Wow, prices have gone up. Looks like it's gonna be 40ish no matter where you go. :/

Well, I just replaced it with an extra one that I had from my q45, they look like the same part and it still doesn't seem to work, also have that new 20 amp fuse, still don't know what could be wrong???

Do you have a multimeter on hand? If so, check the fuse to make sure it has current. Then, check the open ends of the cigarette lighter plug to see if it has voltage.

If it fails at the fuse, then there's something wrong with wiring from the battery to the fuse box. If there's current at the fuse, but nothing at the lighter, then there's a wiring problem between the fusebox and the lighter.

^Exactly. Also, make sure you have the matching lighter for the socket. This sounds a little dumb, but I keep on in my car that looks like my Z's, but longer. It won't work because the contacts don't mate. I keep the real one in my glove compartment. That way, nobody can use it.

Thanks, I'll check it tomorrow, should I unplug the negative battery terminal in order to do this?

To test it with a multimeter? Not at all. You should have the key in the "on" position, as that's when there's going to be voltage going to the lighter.

Just checked my fuse box, ended up fixing the cig lighter. I checked all the fuses to make sure all the fuses were in their right amperage, then ended up noticing the illumination fuse had a 20 amp fuse in it and its suppose to have a 10 amp fuse. Pulled out the 20 amp and the fuse was bad. Checked to see if the lighter worked and it worked, finally. Thank you guys for all your help, once again!

Hey... this helped me too! I tried splicing a power seat into my cig lighter. Worked long enough to move the seat back but then wouldn't work anymore. Checked the fuse ... no problem. But after finding this old thread, I checked and sure enough the illum fuse was blown. Put in a new one and blew that right away too. So I must have shorted a wire when I was messing with the seat. At least now I have a better idea where to look!

I know this is an old post but I want to give credit where credit is due. My cigarette lighter stopped working. The lighter fuse looked fine as did the wiring to the higher, but the lighter wasn't getting any power. Per this post, I changed out the illumination fuse and that fixed the problem. Dont know how I would have been able to fix it without this advice, so thanks.

'I tried splicing a power seat into my cig lighter.'

You never power up a load that big with a cig lighter. How most of them burn up.
