I have a 1994 nissan truck 4 X 4 with a 4 cyclinder and I have an engine light on. there is a plug under the dash but I've been told you cannot hook a computer up to it? they said it needs to be a 1996 or newer, I've been to three parts stores and none of them had the correct plug for their hand held computer and they are the one's that told me it needs to be 1996 or newer. Does anyone know if I can hook a computer up to it without having to spent a million dollars at the dealer.ThanksRob

I think that is because their diagnostic tool is for OBD2, and yours is still OBD1. OBD stands for On Board Diagnostics. There has got to be OBD1 testers out there somewhere.

You have to remove the seat on the passenger side, the ecu is under there. There is also a cover you have to remove to gain access to the computer. Look for a hole on the side of the box with a flathead screw inside. You will need to turn that screw to get the computer to go into diagnostic mode which will flash a couple LED lights in sequence. More info can be found at http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM look inside the 1994 Pathfinder manual as Nissan grouped the truck and the P-finder together for a couple years.
