"check engine" light's been on since yesterday and whenever started, it cranks for a long time. Any clues?

Sounds like a crank or cam position sensor. I have a brand new crank position that I bought trying to troubleshoot something if it ends up being that.

Go and pull your codes by turning the key on waiting 3 seconds, 5 quick full throttle pedal presses, wait 7 seconds, and then hold down the throttle for 10 seconds and the check engine light will blink out the code to you.

Agreed. Definitely sounds like a crank/cam sensor. Have a parts store check the codes. P0335 is the crank sensor code, I don't recall the cam sensor code right now. Also, it is best to replace the crank and both cam sensors at the same time.

Thank you. Is this an DIY easy fix or should I take it to a mechnic? How much should I expect to get charged?

There was a recall for the sensors a while ago, so check with a dealer to see if the work was done or not. If it has it is a pretty easy swap. Whichever sensor it is, is only held on with a 10mm bolt. Do the diagnostic procedure and see what comes back for a code, that will let you know what sensor has gone bad.

I tried pulling the code with the above method but it didn't work. This is exactly what I did. Please tell me if I didn't do it correctly.

1) I turned the key to ON position, did not turn the engine on.2) I pressed gas pedal 5 times quick then waited 7 secs.3) I pressed and held down the gas pedal for 10 secs

You have to wait 3 seconds after turning the key to run. It's a pain in the a** and you have to be right on to get it to work.

Thank you all. I was able to pull 0340 and fortunately like THE CONVERTED mentioned, there's an open recall on this part!
