I've been reading the Service/Maintenance Guide (2011 G37 Coupe AT),and noticed the asterisk next to "Changing Transmission Fluid" reads, "Except Models with 7 Speed Automatics."...... What does that mean? Don't we ever change fluid in the AT?

I think all G37 from 2009+ have the 7AT or else the 6MT. maybe you were reading in the 6MT section and not the AUTO trans section.

For example: At 30,000 miles, the "Optional Premium Upgrade" reads:...."Replace Automatic Transmission Fluid" 3, and the 3 footnote reads, "Except models with 7 speed automatic transmissions." ......... Footnote #3 leaves me questioning if the fluid is changed, or not?

The 7 speed automatics are not serviceable In other words you can not change the fuild. Its designed to last for longer than the transmission

What Fezzik says is literally true: there's no dipstick nor drain. IIRC, according to a post by SteveTheTech not long ago, there's some kind of inspection port for some obscure purpose that no one has the procedure or the special tool for, but it's a factory-sealed unit that's intended to be swapped out if there's a problem.

I suppose that is good?? Once fluid gets cooked wear starts how does Nissan know this fluid is not getting cooked?

The 5spd auto in the G35 wants the fluid changed every 30k? Mine is scheduled for dealer fluid change tomorrow am.

I have been changing the S belt, brakes, diff fluid and transmission fluid every 30k, oil every 3500, spark plugs every 60k the car runs like new.

Only 4 failures: 2 of which are my fault
Idler pulley
drivers front wheel bearing & hub (track days?)
1 camshaft position sensor
cracked drivers side exhaust manifold due to 45 series tires on stock 17" rims bottoming out car hard for 30k miles

So, my dealer is trying to screw me? (shocking, I know...)

I was just advised to have the tranny flushed and changed. Didn't get it done, as I was only getting an oil change.

Wow. Given that we have word from an Infiniti Master Tech that it's a sealed unit, I'd call Infiniti Customer Affairs if my dealer said I needed the fluid changed.

No dipstick for you guys huh? Thats very interesting. How is the trans fluid supposed to not degrade?

It could be the no-fluid-change-policy applies to the new seven speed transmission only.

Thats an interesting question to me too.
Maybe they are more worried about someone putting in a sub-par fluid in than getting it changed?
Keeping it perfectly sealed (which I am not sure is possilble) would also keep it cleaner longer...

Still... :squint:

We probably need Steve, or perhaps Eric, to weigh in on the issue and what's behind it. Steve is pretty busy training for his MS ride, but Eric has been pretty active lately, so perhaps we'll hear from him.

I have a 2009 G37 with 7 speed transmission,
I called 4 dealers and 3 of them said that I should change my trasmission fluid at 30K miles. 2 also said that
drain and fill is not recommended and that I should flush it ($250).

Only one dealer (Beshoff infiity in San Jose CA) told me that the 7 speed AT is a sealed transmission and that the
car will automatically tell me if it needs to be changed and that if it needs to be changed it is very special procedure that lasts 2-3 hours.
The other 3 dealer were "Infinity of Pleasonton", Frontier Infinity and Peninsula Infinity - an in Bay area CA.

i have a 2009 g37x 7at and have changed the fluid myself, its true it is a sealed unit but it obviously can be serviced

there is indeed a drain and fill port on the pan, nissan wouldnt sell me the charging pipe or whatever its called but you can easily make something up like i did, but your going to need the consult 3 to check the level and bring it up to temp to get the correct level.

its sealed meaning it doesnt have a dipstick, but not that it cant be serviced, its all in the service manual
i also changed the fr and r differential as well as the transfer case fluid, which are like traditional rears, drain on bottom fill port higher up, just fill until it comes out the fill port

im about to hit 60k on my 2010 g37x 7sp-Auto... at 30k i asked if my tranny fluid should be changed and the dealer reponded "no"... i checked the manual... and i see the foot note about the 7sp-auto not needing to be changed at every 30k interval in the manual. I will ask the dealer again when i go into my 60k service about my tranny fluid.

im happy to report that at about 58k miles on my 2010 g37x, i havent had any tranmission problems. I did get an software update applied to my G for aggressive down shifting. Ive yet to have my tranny slip or fail to change a gear. I havent noticed any degrade in shifting in auto or manual mode with having 58k miles on my G.

I too was/am confused about what to do with my tranny fluid, but almost 60k miles in and no problems following what the dealer and owners manual say.

So how did you easily make the tool, Ive also been trying to get a hold of the Charge pipe that threads into the Filler plug (front,Allen) but cant find it, Also can't find a Male m8x1.0 (thread pitch on filler plug) barb adapter anywhere. The Nissan supplied tool is made by Kent Moore they want over $250 for it. Would like to come up with something for less than $100. Thanks

The dealer told me at 30K that my ATF was dirty/discolored as well as my brake fluid, differential, power steering and my engine coolant was diluted.

I want to keep my car should I change all these fluids and no I cant change myself the only things I can barely do is the in cabin and engine air filters?

Does the auto transmission alert you when it needs service?
If its sealed with no dipstick how did my dealer realize it was dirty/discolored?

That dealer is a thief. NONE of those fluids need replacing at 30K or anywhere close to that. Check your owners manual.

Owners manual says nothing on when to replace power steering, brake fluid. At 60K it states to change engine coolant and differential and ATF at 30K premium service upgrade but it states excludes 7 speed auto??

Dude, the 7 speed auto is the only auto available in your car or mine, so without a 7speed there is no ATF.

The official line from Nissan is that it's a sealed unit with no ATF replacement necessary, but if you look in the FSM there's a procedure for doing it.

Matt, what's up with the goofy indexing on those? For instance the item labled "2011 G37 Sedan Service/Maint. Guide" is actually the 2011 Infinity Warranty Information booklet when you drill into it.

The httpd or whatever it is probably needs a restart. I'm getting the same result as before on that link, including with a Chrome instance that's never hit the link before.
