Cannot tow a trailer with EX37?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hello all ... this is my first visit and post ...

I'm a Nissan "bigot," mainly for the way they drive.

I'm on my third Nissan truck, a 2008 Frontier 4x4 with the 4.0 V6. Love it!!! We tow a T@B trailer on camping trips, which the Frontier handles excellently.

My wife drives a 1999 Infiniti I30. A great car, too; but we're ready to replace it.

We live in Oregon, and she regularly drives on I-5, which means lots of rain and splashes from the semi's during the winter.

She wants her next vehicle to have her sit higher, like in my Frontier, for better visibility during wet drives. But ... she wants a more sedan-like interior. She's not OK with just taking my truck on her drives up I-5.

I'm happy with anything that drives great.

If it were up to me, I'd get either a 2013 Altima or G37.

She drove the Altima and loved it, but stuck with her desire to sit higher. (And no, she will not just add "booster" cushions. :) )

So then we drove a 2012 Murano. She was pretty happy with it, but I thought it drove like a Toyota.

So now we've started looking at the EX37. I was getting pretty excited, but when I looked at the 2013 Owner's Manual, on page 9-17, it says: "Do not tow a trailer with your vehicle." Huh?

Can this be right? That a "compact SUV" with a 325 hp V6 can't tow a lightweight trailer?

Maybe we can just ignore that, since I plan to keep owning trucks. But it just seems odd.

Thanks for any info.

I asked this question of several sales men and a dealership manager (across several dealerships) and was told it would not invalidate the warranty. Of course they were trying to sell me a car. It is amazing to me that Infiniti designed a CUV without an available hitch, admonishes you not to tow, and has non adjustable roof racks with only a 19 inch spread. Where's the utility? That being said, I have made the racks work, and I added a Curt hitch , which seems to be the only one available. I believe Curt gives a 1500 lb. limit for the hitch. I mostly use it for a bike rack, but will use it this winter to tow a one place snowmobile trailer. Took a round trip to a friends of about 40 miles and barely knew the trailer was there. Very very smooth.

Does anyone know if I would be able to install a hitch on my "leased" EX37? Does infinity allow that?

You should CYA and call them. Don't take our word for it.

For what it is worth, I have an EX35 and my wife has a Murano EL, which she loves. She actually prefers it to the EX35. Obviously it is nowhere near as sporty as the EX35, but it drives decently and is a really great long-distance highway cruiser. It will also carry 5 people with ease, whereas the EX35 is really a 2+2.

I guess it depends on how much you intend to drive "her" car, but my guess is that she would be happier with a Murano than with an EX35, and you can put a heavy duty class 3 hitch on it (4,000 pounds, versus 1,500 pounds for the class 1 on the EX37.) http://www.uhaul.com/Locations/Trailer-hitches/839053
