Nope, its not a joke question and has nothing to do with checked baggage. I was pondering this last night after I got done speaking with a drunk Tito. Buying booze in the airport or the airplane is expensive and generally, I don't do it. However, what if there were a way around that?

I realized that liquids smaller than 3.4oz are allowed as a carry on, and that each person is allowed up to 3.4oz of total liquids via the 3-1-1 rule. After reviewing the prohibited items, guidelines, and rules, I have found that there isn't anywhere on the official prohibited items list(s) that state that I can't. Thus, by following the guidelines in an amount equal to -or less than- 3oz, I believe I can legally get 3 nips through security, thus avoiding the $5-10 charge for a 1 shot mixed drink or beer in the airport or on the airplane.

Think I'll get them taken away from me? Cast your vote now!

Carry it, in your stomach. Haha, but I think you can, as long as you keep it within the regulation.

I don't think there would be a problem carrying the alcohol. The issue would be the drinking, drinking in public, ie. in an unlicensed area would be illegal, and restaurants generally don't want you brining your own booze.

I was on a flight over the summer and the flight attendant brought up drinking booze, on the plane, purchased from duty free. She said it was illegal.

I (and close friends and relatives) have smuggled literally hundreds of shooters onto planes and emerged thoroughly bombed on the other end. It's easy to do, against airline rules but not illegal.

DO IT.

Place as many shooters as you desire in an appropriately sized ziploc bag and enjoy the friendly skies!

Getting them through security is a non issue, they absolutely don't care. The only place you have to watch your back is while consuming them on the plane.

Some one was escorted from my plane because he was drinking alcohol so if they find it and tell you to dispose of it, drinking it wouldn't be a great idea. Also alcohol is flammable so I am sure some where in the rules it says you can not bring it.

You can bring it, but if you're drinking it on the way there you need to stop and think if maybe you might be an alcoholic.

The simple way around that is to just wait until you're airborne. I don't think they'll eject you from the plane for ripping a shot.

Ray- Where are you going?

I was wondering about this. I'm flying tomorrow.

I was reading up on large objects in carry on too. I've got a modded 3d Maglite that I'm bringing with. Apparently it can be considered a bludgeoning weapon.

What sucks is that I'm not checking any luggage. Trying to avoid that damn $15 fee!!!

Don't you have it backwards? It's federal law that you have to comply to all crew members, signs, bla bla. So against airline rules = illegal, it's just a matter of getting caught or not.

i was talkative, not drunk...

idk about nips, but i know full sized bottles have to be checked. but yeah, smuggle them on, and secretly drink them. i think if you get caught it's similar (in offense, not in resulting action) to drinking booze that you brought into a bar or restaurant.

^^This

You can openly take little plastic bottles of booze through airport security, it's not illegal, then just consume them covertly on the airplane.

If they catch you just explain to them that they are airplane bottles. That is what they are meant for. You are using them as they were intended so you shouldn't get in trouble lol. I am curious now if u will get them on or not. If it were me I would just get half lit before I got on. I guess I am an alchoholic.

Headed to Denver to visit the corporate HQ for a popular toasted sandwich chain and for a focus group. Immediately after those are over, I'm headed TO SKI!

Good points... ::shrug:: I'll do it anyway.

I leave on December 3rd, and I'll do the trial run with something crappy- Karkov FTW- in case they do take it away.

However, good call with the comment on the metal detector. They most certainly will not go off. This could exponentially increase how many nips can be on my person.
