I've been looking for a while, and finally found the perfect one. Only has 14k miles, on a showroom floor at Infiniti 4 hours from my house.

I'm selling my '03 M to my buddy and moving on up to this MINT beast. I think they said it's wearing new GTR wheels.

But I wanted to ask you guys that have more experience with this model than I do - I'm very mechanical, have fixed all of my cars since the 90's...what trouble spots to look for? I'm coming from a '96 J30, then a '00 Q45AE, then an '03M...so I'm no stranger to these cars. Replaced the motor in my Q45. But what am I in for? The Y34 was notorious for a gauge cluster failure, for instance...$$$$.....if dealer didn't do it.

I imagine with only 14k miles, everything is near perfect. But was there anything that you noticed that was an issue when the M56 was that "young?"

Also, the warranty is running out in 7 months. I might buy an extended one from Infiniti. Do you guys have any experience or recommendations with that?

Thanks!

jack

Congrats!

Make sure the timing chain recall has been done. Otherwise, my M56 has been rock solid. No other major pain points.

Well, actually, the ECU/TCU programming leads to a sluggish transmission at times which doesn't know when to work and allow full power and when not too...have them update it with all of the latest software, etc.

Great, thanks! Two great things I would not have asked. Much appreciated. Ilya, can you talk to me about the UpRev? What did you do, how does it work?

Never had a car that could...thanks!

Look through the FAQ...there is an UpRev discussion in there. The guy we all go to here is Joe/Seymore4. UpRev won't make too much of a difference on a stock car but if you have bigger plans definitely do it.

That car looks gorgeous! From here it seems to have the tech goodies, but if it indeed is a sport model, you'll enjoy it immensely. A fully loaded sport M is a marvelous driving machine... I'll stop.

Anyway, to address your question, what we're learning is also to test the HVAC. Heating, cooling and normal operation of the vent doors. There are issues that could be related to the heater core or blend doors malfunctioning. Either way, people report one side blowing cold while you've set the whole car to heat, among other goofiness.
Test it out before you put ink to paper.

I’ve got 115K on my 2011 56S, and the only major issue I’ve had was the timing chain. Mine actually stretched enough to cause problems BEFORE the TSB and recall were done. Extremely painful, I had loaners for about 2 months off and on over a winter until the dealer was able to figure out the problem and fix it. So definitely make sure the recall is done.

The only other thing I can think of is the rear window shade motor. It failed in a very irritating way, basically tried to pull down the shade even though it was already down every time I was in reverse. Loud clattering whenever you back up sucks. There’s a recall / fix for that also.

Very nice find! It's interesting that it has a bit of personalization like the GT-R wheels and also the emblem in the lower left front grill. What exactly does it say on the front fender? Additionally is that an EZ-lip or an actual front splitter?

Overall my M56x has been good to me with the exception of the front driver side door freezing up me when I wash my car on a very very cold day.

It's pretty damn nice. I wish the rear GTR wheels actually fit but you won't be able to lower with those 295 tires. Previous owner went badge crazy :rotfl

Thanks guys!

The car is 99.99999% Showroom BRAND NEW...there are two tiny, tiny (size of a fingernail) paint knicks, both within 2" of the bottom of the car. I cannot believe how fortunate I was to find this quality, condition, and only with 14k miles. I drove home 5 hours and got home a few hours ago with it. The TSB timing chain was done, I couldn't find anything on the TCM/ECU programming that was recommended. I am absolutely in love with this car - it is what I've wanted my whole life, and Infiniti really nailed it here.

As for the lowering/wheel gap in rear/fender rolling - I'm not interested in it with this car. Where I live, it's not an option. My days of lowering are over.I love the look of the wide rear wheels, and don't plan on changing them. I was happy to see tires in the rear size (Yep - 295/35) aren't that expensive!!! Plus, the ride is firm enough.

As for the exhaust, I believe it's stock. Maybe just different tips? Sounds like typical-too-quiet-Infiniti exhaust...looking at Stillen when payments are done. The ARK kit sounded a little too scratchy and snappy to me, though I did like it's enhanced depth.

And yeah - badge crazy. I believe he added the little Infinitis in the front bumper (meh), the Purple "S" before the "5.6S" on the sides, an IPL badge on the rear (meh), and for some god forsaken reason, that extra "S" for "SS." That being said, some of them really do look nice. I have a hard time stomaching the IPL one because it's a blatant lie, but god damned if 99% of people didn't know anyway, and this thing screws like one would. I'll remove the purple "S" on the sides, the extra "S" on the m56sS, and maybe the IPL one. It rubs me the wrong way as a purist but it looks good and FEELS like one, haha.

The lip (though it looks great), is just that pliable rubber crap that people used to put on Hondas in the 90's (I think). It is very well done and unless you're within 3-5 feet it looks "factory." Closer than that, it's perfectly done, but folks like us would recognize it as not OEM or "real" aftermarket. It's very soft, and I like the look of it, so I think I'll just leave it. Otherwise I would have to fix and repaint the holes in the bumper, and I think the lip looks great with the same color wheels. I'll post some better pics of the car and you guys can see what you think it is made from.

Two problems only - The battery died in my driveway, I went back out to start the car, the auto lights were left on (and were still on 10 minutes later???), and the battery was dead. That royally sucked as the car was pulled in forwards and that was a huge pain in the a**. It was hard to jump and I suspect the battery is trash (and original). So I'll replace it and send them a bill. The other is squeaky rear brakes. Very squeaky. Seems the pads have plenty of meat left, however when they are just barely brushing with the most gentle of braking, there is a very loud squeak that I will need to figure out. Even light application at 50mph when decelerating to an offramp elicits a brief but audible squeak. Very odd to hear at such high speed. But BOY DOES THIS CAR STOP ON A DIME....WOWOOWOWOW. It stops as well as it goes.

We'll put it on the lift this week and I will post pics.

The power in this car is violent - even compared to my '03M and the '00Q45 slushbox before it...it is just violent. I found myself turning the traction control back on after 3 hours of driving and being a little too spirited. We all know bad things happen in the first week of ownership :)

ONE question for you guys.....I had the option of an extended warranty. I only have 7 months left on powertrain and that's it. For only $2800, I can buy a 48,000/4 yr FULL warranty with a $200 deductible. For $4000, I can buy the same with no deductible (which I wasn't considering).

I'm really torn on the $2800 option. I fix my own cars, but I have looked inside this engine and I am too old, my back is too bad, and my hands are too big for this car. That being said, it only has 14k on it....I am pretty sure that when I hit 62k, I won't have any major issues. But for only $2800 (not including wear items), I'm somewhat torn. Your thoughts?

I am a photographer - I look forward to posting some great pictures. Thanks for your input and your warm welcome. Typically, I am the guy that loves to tackle messed up projects and make a detailed FAQ about it (see the nightmare FGY33 knock sensors thread...arggghhhhhh).....but this car...I spent enough to finally ensure I got a car that won't need work for the foreseeable future.

Glad you like it! You got a great deal. Might be cheap pads or lack of use with those low miles. I'd recommend to replace them all with Project Mu NS. Super low dust, super quiet and bite like crazy when asked.

Congratulations on the purchase. I shared the same sentiments when I bought mine. We share some history in that I had an 01 Q45, 03 M45 and a lot of Y50 M45s before and after my 11 M56S. The m56 is best enjoyed with all the electronic nannies on. It is a big, heavy car with bucket loads of torque and stops on a dime.

The sport braking system is amazing. My brakes generally squeal when the car has sat for too long. Before buying new pads, try bedding the brakes.
It has immensely helped me whenever I buy cars... and ever so often I do it after regular operation over time.

On the warranty, I'd go for the $2,800 option with a $200 deductible. Not too many things will (should) go wrong, at least not enough times to equal the $1200 difference in the deductible. I am looking at the rear active steer, HVAC system as the biggest ones, but they pay for themselves pretty fast. Again, IF it happens.
Or you could look at it like hedging with a $800 risk over 4 years and just buy the more expensive $4,000 option.

Just remember, the vast majority of us don't have those problems, and at the end of 4 years, you might look back at it as the most expensive peace of mind you've bought. That's your sport muffler money, and then some...
I am speaking like someone who generally treats his life and decisions like a business. The risk - severity - DIY ability matrix I play tells me not to buy any extended warranties for myself.

Congrats. Glad you like.

RE: Warranty...shop around for the "Infiniti Elite Warranty". Most people here have had great luck with Scottsdale Infiniti or Circle Infiniti (you can buy it from a dealer across state lines).

Paranoid,

Your car is what I wanted plus AWD, sport model with the aero package is beautiful. What a nice car. I had to look at 2013's due to the sport model being offered with awd. I purchased mine in Chicago and have been very happy.

You do not have to purchase a extended warranty from the place you purchase the car from. Take your time and ship around. READ THE FINE PRINT, make sure that the replacement parts are factory new. I got screwed on one warranty I purchased, they could get parts from anywhere including junk yards.

To the other members, what does the software today so to our transmission, did it improve the issues ie the crazy shifting!

Take care of her and more pics are great.

agreed on the warranty advise. I would get the cheaper with $200 ded. As Ilya said contact those two volume sellers, most likely they will give you a much better price than local dealer. When I bought mine it was almost double for the same contract that my local guys quoted. Also, get the elite and not some third party, you may save money but will loose during the claim process.

I love the white....enjoy!

Where can I get these? Checked their website and it seems they don't have them for the M56s? Just the m37 and g37 brakes...

Wow - guys, I've been a NICO member for a long time. I like to think I've helped alot of people and received many emails saying so....but I don't think I ever saved anyone money like you guys just saved me.

My dealer was going to give me 48/4yr for like $4k. Bumper to bumper elite, no wear items. Greenwich, CT.

I called IoS from whom I have spent 20k online since the early days with Joe.....talked to a lovely Courtney....

She blew my mind and told me that I could buy a much longer warranty because my car has less than 20k on it, and was bought from a dealer. WOWOWOWOWOOWOW....

So drumroll please......

I am getting a 96 month/100k ADDITIONAL Infiniti warranty......this is to 114k miles....for only $2700!!!!

Wow...plus a discount for being a NICO member! I owe ALL of you guys a beer, but especially Ilya, Malbec 56 Beast, and Mjkkb2 for staying on top of the "look elsewhere" and "call volume seller."

So thank you so much...who knows what might fail between now and 115k. That's a looong warranty on a very expensive vehicle for $2700.

I can't thank you enough for telling me to do that. I love NICO. I haven't had good weather for any real good shots, but they'll be here soon...

I believe for the sport versions (4 piston front/2 piston rear Akebono brakes) the part numbers are the same for the Y51 VQVHR (M37), when I did some quick cross checking on my regular parts site. The G37 and M37 parts are the same - am using R-spec pads I bought from a G37 enthusiast site on my ride.

Infiniti parts number: D1060-JL00J, Look Up Code: 41000K
M56: https://grubbsinfinitiparts.com/nissanp ... ode=41000K
M37: https://grubbsinfinitiparts.com/nissanp ... ode=41000K

Need some more M56 fellas to chime in to confirm this tho'

I was looking at the stillen kit, the ARK was a little too loud (raspy) for me...any advice? It seems for same money one can get custom, but "custom" stainless is not always better than Stillen. I read that Stillen doesn't address the X pipe, right? So Stillen+custom to keep pipe sizes as consistent as possible and get some flow? I am really concerned about drone, it's a big engine, I find the stock exhaust too quiet, but I want to hear the exhaust, not feel it. And BigFlow, did you notice a difference after installing the HPS kit?

Thanks!

I noticed some difference with the intake, but nothing huge. I believe it supposedly adds 10hp. For the exhaust, you’re right. Adding Stillen cat back doesn’t address the x-pipe. Our cars have 2 sets of cats leading into a 1.75” y-pipe. I removed one set of cats along with the resonator and installed 2.25” custom pipes with an x-pipe and added the Infiniti sport muffler (others have done 2.5” pipes). You already have the sport muffler, so you may want to ask others on the forum whether Stillen is much of an improvement. I love the sound of my setup. Nice and throaty, but not too loud. Adds some punch, too. I haven’t done uprev, but I’m considering it. I hear that makes a huge difference, especially with the custom exhaust.

Hi. So you have 2cats insread of 4? If so will the M56 pass emissions with just 2cats?
