I've got a 2011 hatch. When I go over speed bumps, the rear makes a horrendous CLUNK sound. It's been this way since I drove it off the dealer's lot. Might just be because the rear wheels are so far back and there's probably not a lot of weight over them. Maybe I'm just going too fast.

Anyone else have the same experience?

Test you two possible hypothesis by taking a lazy sunday traversing a speed bump both loaded and unloaded and at various speeds. A clunk could be something as simple as something in the back shifting around or as concerning as dead shocks. Either way, unless you are Joe Pesci driving to Jersey to dig a hole there should be no clunking in the back of your car.

I can't speak to the hatchback, but in my sedan I had the same problem and it was the tool bag. I just secured it down and haven't had any problems.

Switch to briefs. You should let those bounce around like that. :chuckle:

My gf has this problem... I think it's either the springs come unseated from the bump or the rear shocks are bad.

Try pumping the brake really hard off and on and see if the rear end starts to bounce noticeably. If it looks like you put hydraulics on the car and are competing in a bounce contest you may have dead shocks.
