I just wanted to take a moment and share my experiences with Brakemotive's Powder Coated Calipers. I got them installed yesterday and really like them. Obviously, they're not a true upgrade over the OE, just rebuilt and powder coated, but I really like the look.
I originally picked up the set of 2 rear calipers, four rear pads and the clips for $126 on eBay, including a $90 core return charge. I thought that was a good deal but a week later I saw them come up for $96 for four pads, four clips and two rear rotors, which also included a $90 core charge... so better deals are to be had.
So I've had these for a few weeks, now. I tried the install a few weeks ago but the first caliper I tried was defective... got it replaced with no issues whatsoever from Brakemotive. It seems there was a gouge on the back of the caliper where the brake line connects which ran from the brake line hole, all the way to the outside edge of the caliper. This caused brake fluid to *drip*, *drip*, *drip*.
The new ones arrived and I got them installed yesterday. I didn't take pics of the steps but, in order to spend as little time outside as possible, I used my kitchen table (my wife was THRILLED) to stage the new calipers. I applied CRC Disc Brake Quiet to the shim side of the pads (where contact is made with metal on the caliper) and let them sit for about 10 minutes for the CRC to set. i greased the slides with high-temp lubricant, installed the metal clips in the calipers and then seated the pads. The CRC helped the pads adhere to the caliper and, for those who aren't familiar, it reduces the resonate frequency of the brake pad squeal - I have absolutely zero squeaks or squeals. It was nice having everything together so all I had to was remove the caliper (2 bolts) and the brake line (one bolt) and the new ones slid right on.
I really like the look of the red caliper behind the hyper silver wheel and black exterior. Now I just need to keep my eyes peeled for the next time they have front powder coated calipers in stock (seem difficult to find).
I used my Motive Brake Bleeder (so awesome, btw) to bleed the rear brakes and introduced Pentosin DOT4 brake fluid in to the mix.
What do you all think?
