Bought a Twin Turbo Z32 all original with 107XXX miles. I have a number of questions to ask to all of you and I hope you can help me and I will be very grateful. OK to start off, the temperature gauge does not stay put it jerks alot especially when you accelerate hard, what could that be? The RPMs do not work, there was this moment where it seemed to want to start working but it did not. At high speeds or when flooring it, it gives off a weird smell as if something is hot. (Checked the antifreeze/coolant levels, and oil and they are good)

Just for additional information, this car was parked outside a house and was RARELY moved and I mean rarely! The thing had spider webs all over the place until I decided to buy it off. It has the typical crammed engine bay of the Twin Turbo.

Try cleaning the corrosion that I'm sure is on the coolant temp sender.

Basically this sounds like a lot of electrical problems. Try pulling the gauge cluster and cleaning the contacts. I mean, it took a while for my 2+2 to come back to life after she sat for about 9 months.

If the car sat for a good period of time, you could be burning "stuff" off. When flooring it or at high speeds, you are pushing a lot through the cats and the turbos are spinning faster due to the extra load. I would really start worrying if you get a lot of excessive smoke with the smell. If took close to a month to burn off the extra oil fingerprints and etc. off after my swap.

Thanks yeah I thought that would be it, Im also going to be checking the exhaust for leaks because the smell comes stronger from under the driver and passenger seats and center console gets hot

You've got some dead cats then. And not the kind that go meow.

That would also cause the jerking and other issues.

Since you said it gets hot, check and make sure the middle heat shield is still in place. It basically sits directly on top of the cats. If its still in place and you feel heat then your cats are running super hot sounds like

I just replaced the 02 sensors on my car and thought the engine was going to catch fire from the Pb blaster burning off the first time I took it for a ride. Kind of scary...
