After reading the heater install thread in the Rogue glossary section I purchased a Kats unit (Pyroil) from Napa parts then called the nearest dealer for a labor estimate to put it in. Well, that's when things went south... First they had never done one on the Rogue and said the only way possible was an oil pan heater pad. So I pointed out that all CA models come equipped that way and it entailed removing the alternator and water pump for access. So quoted labor rate was 2.5 hours plus a new pump as Nissan lists no pump gasket separately. So by that he quoted me around $350 total.
I guess I was just figuring on something around a $100 or so!

Without a garage to tackle it I'll probably wait till spring and do it myself or maybe go to a local shop. I can make the gasket easily myself I think and save a bundle doing it. Or,,,just stick a pan heater on and be done with it I suppose. I was pleasantly surprised to see my new Rogue start at -20F.

If you are going to tackle this yourself, a few tips:

- Set aside a day.
- Make sure you have all parts on hand.
- Buy the proper replacement gaskets from the dealer.
- Make sure you have a large basin to empty the coolant into.
- Buy some OEM Nissan coolant to top up if needed. It's the best stuff out there... for many reasons.
