I just tried a paulander Hefeweisen. Pretty good, pretty much a "normal" wheat beer. Smooth and not strong.

That said, i tried another few brews. A white ale, Double IPA, Tripel, Quad and an Imperial stout. Nothing to really talk about except for the Stout. It's the Mephistopheles by Avery

I am really liking this beer! 16% AbV and ~$45/6pack, so I don't drink too much of it. I just wish it came in the usual 750ml bottle...but the I'd be pretty tipsy, since that'd be like drinking 7 bud lights.
I've tried that!
The smell was incredible. Dark chocolate and coffee.. if I remember right.
That was some strong shiznit.

Oh I love it now! At first, I didn't think I had enough hair on my chest for it. So I stopped shaving and bought another bottle.

I've now started drinking other stouts and have put the abbey ales to the side for just a little while.

I want to show you this, its my bottle of Dogfish Head's 120 minute IPA. Brewed at %18.5 ABV, thats a 37 proof beer! I've had it a few times before, and its like 5 Sierra Nevada's stacked into one bottle, its not syrupy or thick, but its a big, heavy beer thats just insane. $11 per 12oz bottle. They say it ages well, and I'm saving this one until 2018, mmmmmm.
[IMG][/IMG]

*Update* I did not save it until 2018, I got drunk and opened it. I didn't finish all of it and kept the rest in the freezer all night, and it barely slushed.

Avery, as part of their Dictator series (seasonal microbrew), has released their Czar, Imperal stout. It's been out for a little while now so I'm sure you can find it at all fine liquor stores, so long as they've not sold out.

This beer is good! (I'll post a better pic once I pull it off my camera)

This beer has flavor; This beer has hopiness; This beer has aroma, and is full bodied. It's delicious!
Beer Advocate gives it a B+, but I'd give it a 93%. At $7.99/bottle, I've bought a few of them and will likely go buy some more. Certainly worth the money!
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30/7850

I'd put it a couple steps behind Avery's own Mephistopheles imperial stout (demon series) and a little behind Boulevard's Imperial Stout (Smoke stack series, limited edition, numbered bottles).

I've been drinking their Black Lager at a bar in town...it's meh.

I'd love to get me some of the pale ale though, it's probably my class of brew.

I'm jonesin' for one now...might have to suck it up and get some Rolling Rock at walmart...

This thread makes my heart hurt because it reminds me of the evils of today's world.

Heineken? Stella? Corona? Coors? BUD LIGHT???????? As if that wasn;t bad enough, some people actually said they prefer bottles or cans to tap nowonder we are the laughing stock of the world beer-wise What would our proud fore fathers say? Have you thought about how they weep in heaven when they see how corrupted their beloved nation has become?

Go to the Czech Republic, hop on a train and go to Plzen. Check out the Patton Museum if you are feeling patriotic, and then head to the Pilsner Urquell brewery. Then prepare yourself to taste the beer of the gods in its virgin, pure, and most holy state = directly from the barrel in which it is brewed and before it is processed for export

Every beer lover needs to pilgrimage there at least once in a lifetime, its like going to Mecca for Muslims - A central pillar of one's faith

If one lives in a cursed land in which the majority of population are heathens who drink horsepiss out of cans and call it "beer", and where real beer is prohibitively expensive and finding places that serve it from the tap is difficult, then one should at least consume Sam Adams or other quality beers so as not to invoke the wrath of the gods.

If you like wheat beers, try Hacker Pshorr, they've been brewing for something like 400 years and their wheat beer is still brewed the same way. The other wheat beer I like is Erdinger. Fiddler's Elbow out of the UK isn't bad wheat beer if you prefer your wheat beer with both a little bite and bitterness.

Mill Street Stock Ale isn't wheat beer, but its damn good, especially on hot summer days.

So I just recently tried the Longshot 6-pack from Sam Adams. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, Sam Adams holds a contest where people across the nation submit their home brews and two get picked to be put in a six pack, along with one picked from a Sam Adams employee (they are voted on of course).

This year, the three picked were(in order from worst to best IMO):

Image

I don't have a picture of it, but it was a decent ale. Not one of my favorites. I could taste the caramel and raisins (which was surprising cause I didn't think raisins had a very distinct flavor). The reason I didn't like it was it had a VERY heavy mouth feel for an ale. It was very good though, but just not my favorite of the three.

The next was:

Image

It was a standard barley-wine. Nothing too special but I liked it a lot (although I tend to like barley-wine's). It did hide the alcohol quite well for a BW.

The Sam Adams employee made the:

Image

Don't let the "pepper" in the name scare you. This was the BEST tasting beer of the three IMO and my new favorite. It had just a hint of vanilla up front and then the lemon was fresh but not overpowering. At the back is where the "pepper" comes in. It's not like black pepper, its like a "bite" from the hops in the end. Not a bitter bit, but almost like an extra punch of carbonation feel on the tongue that just wraps up the whole thing ending clean and crisp.

Anyone else try this yet?? Get out there and get it NOW!!

Not an everyday beer at it's pricepoint ($11.50 for a 4 pack) and because of it's alcohol content (guess why it's called TenFidy) but it's very tasty!

I've heard good things about this beer and Osark Blues also makes Dale's Pale Ale which is a DELICIOUS beer. So I'm sure thats good too, I'll have to try to find it around here.

TenFidy is actually my favorite beer of all time and I mentioned it in the stout beer thread last month. You can read more about that beer here:

Was at a Tasting tonight.

Had mostly IPAs. Top 3 of the night in no particular order were

Founder's Double IPA
Bell's Hopslam
Bitter Valentine Williamsburg Alewerks Double IPA <--- I really enjoyed this one. I would say it was the top of the night for me.
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/14952/78559

Some others we had but I am not sure exactly if I have the names right;

Smuttynose IPA
Frosty Knuckle Sea Spray?
An english Dry cider was the first of the night
DarkHef from Weihenstephaner
An Imperial Stout from Beach Brewing, in Virginia Beach.<---- Really cool guys
Portsmouth Bottle Rocket IPA

There might be one or two I missed maybe but it was a good afternoon.
