So after installing the coilovers and driving the car for a few months I determined that new tires were in order hoping that would soften up things a bit as the BC's are super stiff even on the softest setting. Meanwhile I also determined that fluid changes hadn't been done a long time (5 years but it wall Redline or Amsoil) so I ordered those changed up too.

New Michelin Pilot Super Sports YR rated with Xl load were ordered for a cool 1k from tire rack and I another grand to the mechanic for all the work. Got the car back and when making left turns and steering the left the car was darting around like mad. I called the mechanic up and he suspected that it was "radial pull" and was going to rotate the tires. When that didn't work he re-examined the alignment from the coil over install and figured out that it was very messed up and that I had to be able to adjust the camber and caster and of course you cannot on our cars and we do not have full adjustable tension rods. So without anything else to do he found some aftermarket tension rods, and at the same time we also determined that the brake pads all around were shot.

So final result, another 1.5k and the car is amazing. The adjustable tension rods which enables me to run just a smig of negative camber in the lowered stance suddenly the harsh ride is gone and the car feels like it is on rail but that I also want to drive it everyday.

So as everybody seems to be giving their Q's the final curtains on this board I am going another 3-4 years minimum. I have figured out that I have just dropped 5 grand large into the car, now if it doesn't cost me a whole lot the next few years it will be money well spent. But I have a brand new suspension, fresh fluids, fresh brakes, a new streaming radio with Bluetooth handsfree and a fresh set of Michelins.

Very cool! It sounds like you're married to her for a few more years to get your money's worth - and it's still cheaper than one year's depreciation on a nice new car. I'd love to see some pictures of everything if you get a chance.

We are waiting for a big rain to hit the Bay Area this weekend. I will get her outside for some extensive pics, it was directly to the car wash after sitting for nearly 2 weeks while the mechanics figured out the bars and got them mounted. Thankfully I have a nice warm garage where she will sit in the inside while this storm dumps on my XTerra and Leaf :).

I agree, this is 1 year depreciation on a Q70, actually it would be the equivalent of dropping out of the driveway on my way home with that new car :). So married we are for sure. I just took a new job that will cause me to drive 4x a week about 60+ miles a day, so I figure in 3 years it will have 130k and still hopefully have avoided the coil packs, knock sensors etc and I will give the car to my buddy who loves it as much as I do.

Great news, Jeff
Would be interested to see the adjustable tension rods as well. what do you think of the MPSS, and what size are you running? I NEED MPSS in 235/50/17 for the queen, but they don't seem to make that size, and 245/45 may rub the front
my prediction is your coilpax will make it to the next plug change, and then die within 3k afterward (that was my scenario). Even if you do have to change them, it's <600 for the parts (genuine OEM, but shop around) and an hour labor (I did it in my brother in law's driveway with just my field tools from the x-c voyage).

I am running those tires in 245/45 19 but my setup is totally custom, I bough some 06' M45 Sport Enkei wheels off a guy 10 years ago with the hopes that they would be a direct fit to the Q and balance well (I learned my lesson with some crap aftermarkets also bought from a member). Low and behold, totally different offset so I am running 22mm spacers (custom made by a shop in LA they are b0mber). So with the wheels pushed out there is no rubbing issues.

If the Tirerack cannot get them then they do not exist...

I will post up pics of the tension rods soon. I don't know what brand they are but they found something that "almost" fit, the mechanic had to do some fabrication to get them to work.

Coil packs will get done when I get around to the spark plugs again. I did the plugs around 85k, I have 105k now, but that was a number of years ago. Right now it runs so smooth that I don't dare mess with a thing for at least a year. Then if I feel like it I will do plugs, ks, coil packs the whole thing at once. I plan to give this car to one of my best friends after I am done with it to keep it in the family. He wrenches on my bikes (I am too lame to work on those too) so keeping your bike mechanic happy is a good thing when you ride 4-5k a year :)

Okay, so finally got a few pics taken today...here is the customized tension rod

Hey had to mod the link point from stock (there is not stock mount aftermarket adjustable available). They also had to mod slightly the other pivot point

With the BC's at 1/2 way-point I was able to raise the ride height from my old Tein lowering springs setup to this level:

If my X-Terra and Leaf were not so covered in leaves and crap from the Pineapple express storm I would have shown those too :).

If any is interested in trying to replicate this setup let me know and I will get my mechanic to tell where he found these. There is a S13 specialist down the street from my mechanic who helped him figure out what would fit with some mods. This setup cost me $500 when all was said and done, but I do understand now what this is such a popular mod for driffers, the ability to completely adjust camber and caster is nice.
