Ok SO I purchased a new battery to swap out my 4 yr old core.

Ha Not so fast!! I watched someone do it on you tube. Uggh

Seems I need to pop the four plastic rivets. Lock the car. Unplug negative, then positive.

Then....the instructions are for a 2003 model, and I have this cursed electronic key. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

May have to knuckle under and spend big bucks at dealer? Or my local guy may know. Any help greatly appreciated!!

The video warned me that I could do major electrical damage if process was not followed implicitly. They said lock the door, remove terminals...neg then positive....then unlock car leave drivers door open and open Windows. Then reconnect battery, and start far with mechanical key.

So does anyone have experience with G37?

If you don't follow the instructions, the only thing that will happen is that when you shut the doors, the windows will go down.
Look at the Factory Service Manual, link is in the General Discussions page toward the top.

Give this a try:

http://www.infinitig37.com/G37-battery-replacement.html

When doing it the only issue I had is my power windows needed a reset.

OK there we go, I see the owners manual has additional procedure with windows and doors to help resetting the auto window timer.

What sort of jerk comes up with this? Japanese cars have a certain force...easy to build...easy to work on. Maybe this keeps the battery less exposed to the elements..............

THANK YOU FOR THE LINK!!!!

Upscale Infiniti wants the engine compartment looking clean too. It also helps protect it from the elements as well.

You are welcome for the link. There is more stuff on the how-to page as well and links to all manuals and product updates on the pages.

Ever put a battery in a mid 90s Jeep?
They won't idle until reset by a dealer computer.

Resetting the window timer is actually quite easy now, which enables body shops and owners to easily reset the windows without removing the door panel.

I do not know why you would lock the car before removing the battery, but the most important thing is making sure the terminals are fully installed and tight. I have seen all kinds of terrible things happen with improperly installed batteries.

What is your issue with iKeys?

Don't lock the door before taking the battery out. Just in case you need to get in. Not a big deal unless you lock your keys in there too.

On my previous 06 G35 it had a weak cell that would not come up to a full charge.

Upon pricing batteries the dealer price was within $10.00 of independent shops.

I got my 700 CCA battery at the dealer, enjoyed the free eats, watched their TV, read their newspapers, and everything worked as I drove away.

I am pretty sure mine is about that much too. We use Interstate (branded Infiniti) batteries and charge .5 to install it.
It sounds pretty fair to me,especially with the Gs and FXs where the battery is buried under plastic with those tiny screw locks. In addition to what you mentioned it is saved in your vehicles history. Probably most important if there is a problem with it the installer is liable, whether that is the owner or the tech at a dealer, a loose negative cable can (and does) fry computers.

On locking the car. In my Mazda the owners manual says that if you do lock the car and take the radio out it will brick it. I know our cars are not like that but I do not think there is any need to lock it.... I never have.

The radio in my old 92 Lexus had that feature

Dealer said my battery was still putting put good current, and I have avoided replacement for now. Guess I can't leave back doors open with radio blasting for hours!

My issue with electric key are multi. I have always left a key in my counsel so if l lose key...I could use spate key. If car unlocked, spare at the ready. If locked in, having a lock Smith open door puts me back in game.

I had a major theft of my camera bag while on vacation....and they stole my key. Dealer wants 300 to replace. Off market wants 200 bucks. The key only cost 88 on Amazon. I am paying for replacement...through the teeth!

You can get a replacement key and fob on ebay and then have the dealer program it and cut the key. Still not that cheap.

Quick caveat about ebay keys. I have a very high failure rate with them.By failure I mean the program procedure will not complete.

Please buy carefully.

When one buys cheap they very often end up buying twice along with much aggravation and wasted time.

Huh. Bought 6 keys from ebay and they all worked fine on programming. They came uncut and I have the key code to have the dealership cut them as well.

Didn't have an issue with the fob and uncut key I bought for the sedan either.

Old bump, but wanted to give props for the link. Just had to change the battery out on my '10 G37 and this was a huge help. It looks a lot more complicated than it actually is, but without some guidance I imagine it would have been an awful experience. All said and done, it took me about 20 minutes, and I had a memory saver for the OBD port so didn't have to reprogram anything. Thanks audatious...you are an invaluable resource around here!!
