OK, here's a good one for you guys, since lots of you wear ball caps.

As negotiations with my hair have broken down over the last few years (apparently, it wants a divorce from my head), I've been wearing caps a lot more - especially outside, and driving the convertible, and even in the garage (which is where I'm most likely to whack my melon on a control arm or a jackstand).

I've had a bunch that I've gotten as freebies at events, etc., but I dislike the "snapback" and velcro closures - I like a fitted (or one-size) hat.

However, lots of them leave my noggin hot and sweaty (and when it's 115* out, that's not good).

So, who makes a nice, breathable, curved-bill (no flat-brims here) ball cap?

No, it's your hair finally paying you back for that chin ferret you sported for way too long ;)

I've found mine randomly, but when I find one I like I get it. Mine are all branded though, which probably helps. I have a University of Kentucky one that's breathable, curved bill, and soft top. All of my hats are required to have at minimum a curved bill and a soft top because I can't stand a hat that sticks way up. It's seems like most of the college team hats are "47" branded then I have a few from American Eagle and Aeropostle that I like.

Outside of that, usually hats like you're looking for can be found in the sporting goods section in most stores. If you're wanting unbranded though, you'll probably have to do a little more hunting or order them online.

Nope - no buckle. Those are worse than velcro.

Most of the sports team hats are thick, heavy material (sweat). I'm not one of those nitwits that leaves the tag on them - I wear 'em out.

Stop by a specialty running store and check out a billed running cap/hat.

I've got a great lightweight hat made by Sitka Gear but you'd hate it since it's adjustable velcro in the back.

Check out Viper Headwear, I think everything they offer is fitted.

This. My favorite two hats are Brooks Running hats. Super light weight, don't leave you sweaty, curved bills. Mine have a pull buckle type fastener.

That's a pretty good idea.

I tried to just go with a white hat in hopes that it would keep me cooler, but it really doesn't. I resort to wetting that bad boy down before going out in the Miata now.

I've got a hat with a regular buckle in the back, not a slide-type, and I love it. Unfortunately, it's a generic make.

The slide-buckles always caught my hair in them and ripped it out when I took them off, so I can feel ya on that. But if not a buckle, and not velcro, what options are left, really? The old snap type? Ugh...

I also don't have hair (by choice) but cannot stand hats. Especially billed hats. The whole reason I shave my head is I like the feel of fresh air on my head, and hats ruin that.

A couple years back, I picked up an antimicrobial "athletic bandana" (really just a breathable do rag) to wear under my bicycle and motorcycle helmets so they wouldn't get all stanky when I ride. It's EXTREMELY light, with a slightly-stretchy thin fabric on top and a thicker, more elastic fabric at the band. It even has a textured rubber strip along the front of the band to keep sweat from running down into my eyes--I thought this would be obnoxious and sticky-feeling, but I don't notice it at all.

Anyway, I like the thing so much I found myself wearing it even when I'm not riding. I'm sure it looks less than cool, but I wouldn't be walking around with a bic'd head if I was worried about that. It's comfortable, keeps the sun off, wicks sweat away, and keeps me cool--plus the antimicrobial fabric means it doesn't smell like sweat even after many uses (though I still wash it periodically).

This is the one I've got:

Edit:
Looks like they make billed caps from the same stuff, but they have adjustable closures. :frown:

Greg - make sure the bill of the hat is completely flat. Be sure to leave any stickers or pricetags on the hat to ensure those who see you wearing it totally understand that your hat is "mint" or "fresh". Also be sure to walk into the nearest sporting goods store with your freshly mint hat to garner attention. Only then will you be doing it right.

Under Armor. Best hat I've ever had by far. I've been a "hat guy" for 40 years.

I've had THIS one for 3 years now, I believe you asked me about it at Carlisle.

It's a little $$ but it's been beat up a lot and it doesn't even show any wear at all. I toss it in the dishwasher on the top rack every now and again for a good cleaning.

I like those Under Armour caps, but I'd rather have something without a gratuitous corporate logo on it... I buy practically all their other stuff, I really don't need to brand myself all over the place.

^ Agreed. I like plain caps...

I'd rock a sports team cap, but people tend to start s*** out in public if they've had a few drinks and don't like your hat. Not a sufficient reason for me to spend a night in jail, IMO.

Meh, logos don't bother me either way. There, not there...doesn't affect me all that much. I've had some plain hats before, but none of them have ever been as comfortable as the UA.

As far as sports teams go and idiots running their mouth, I haven't been out to a bar around those type of tool bags in a long long time. If I do go out, it's to a sports bar to watch a game or a fight. But it's an environment where rival team logos are abundant. So the jackassary is kept to a minimum.

I don't go to bars around this area at all. Way too much redneck out here for my accent to "blend" in.

Some jabroni started s*** with me in an airport/on a plane on my way to Rhode Island cos I was wearing a patriots hat. He was very adamant about the fact that the dolphins were better in every way.

Thankfully, the FAA lets you use your small portable electronic devices all the god damn time now.

I catch s*** around here all the time for my UGA stuff. The problem is Lexington is all about UK and basketball - which I just happen to not give a damn about. So when they start giving me grief about UGA, I remind them how much their football team sucks and that I don't give a damn about their basketball team.

Problem solved.

Beezy, that second one is nice - didn't know they came in a bunch of different colors.

Does "pretty please" work, or do I need to send nudes of Torry?

BTW, were you at Carlisle this year?
