I have a 92 auto 2+2

Running fine, shifing weird like at 3200 rpms. when I first turn the car on, the auto light blinks one long maybe 2 seconds, then 16 quick blinks. tried doing the diagnostic but came up empty. Any ideas?

Forgot to mention, starts just fine in park and neutral, reverse is just fine as well.

What do you mean by "shifting weird"? Hard? Slow? Jumpy?

Slow shifting-drive it to in drive and it acts like it doesnt want to shift, then all of a sudden it shifts, hard. not sure what gear it starts in, but when I give it more gas italmost bogs down and doesnt want to go anywhere. If I try and manual shift it, it doesnt respond to it. TPS is adjusted to .45closed-4.0v WOT, idle I cannot get below 1000, fluid is new. Now it did sit for over a year without fluid in the transmission, could the solinoids possibly be stuck? Before I put it in the garage, shifted fine. I am very certain all the connectors are connected when I dropped the transmission and reinstalled it. The AT light blinking 16 times is what is reall getting me.

Ok, here is some more information that I have found. I put some lucas transmission stuff in it and its shifting better, still shifts hard but better. It will not down shift, in fact when I open the throttle up it up shifts, almost like the whole thing is backwards. It does shift at 4000 rpms in all gears.

here is a question, on the TPS which plug controls the transmission? I did notice that the black plug, the one on the front part of the TPS, the wires seemed corroded on the back side, is it possible that could be all my problems? It also seems to have hesitation in some parts of the rpm range, this is still uncertain so which part I cannot tell you.

Ill take any ideas, and if I start to do anything on the Z, ill let you know if anything changes.

The problem has been solved. Apparently when I connected the TPS, the one on the front, not the one with wires coming out of the TPS, I turned it around. I guess it can fit on there both ways. Turned it the right way and a million time better. That does make sense why it would up shift at full throttle and not pull any codes. But all is good now, just have hesitation that I need to track down. This seems to happen when say you take a right turn and give it throttle, just doesnt have any get up and go until about 3k or so then it takes off. I'm thinking it may either be trans isn't down shifting, and is an actually tps issue since I have the old one on there and when I adjusted it I got it .45 closed but at WOT it goes to 4.3. Im gonna put the new one on and see if that solves it, which pretty certain it will. I am gonna go through the list of hesitation probs that I have seen in other posts, and maybe track down or stop other hesitaion probs.

Curiousity, how much of a difference does it make the car run with the NGK PFR6-11( I think thats the number) compared to the ones from say autozone which are ngk, just reg platinum and cannot find the code for that one. I got the one from autozone, yeah being cheap again, before I got the car running. I am gonna get the correct ones, this is just a curiousity check.

Sorry I didn't check back in on this thread. I could have told you that's what I thought was going on. same exact thing happened on my old SVX.

And the right spark plugs make a world of difference. This car is very temperamental.

Thanks Ace, I have been noticing that about this car. I will tell you what even with the wrong plugs it did drive beautifully, and I forgot that these cars actually have some get up and go. Im putting on the new TPS in the next couple of days as well as the new plugs. I am going to clean the MAF as well and hopefully it will leave it problem free for at least till after mid april, we are taking the PCH up to San Francisco from Santa Monica. That should be a blast in this car.

^^Where are you located? I'm in the Central Valley, and sometimes take trips up to the Vacaville/ Travis AFB area.

I actually live in Phoenix, AZ. We are getting married on the beach in Santa Monica, and doing the whole honeymoon thing up the coast, which is why I am hoping that the car will behave during that time.

Ah, gotcha, haha. The coast is beautiful this time of year, albeit a little chilly/ windy. Make sure to bring a jacket. ;)
