like a new torque converter?

maybe its time to read the guides on how to a 5 speed manual transmission swap.

I mean like a way to increase line pressure or something? And I'm going to rb25 swap it in a few months I jus want a little firmer shifts for now?

Really? You need "firmer" shifts for your stock automatic KA race car?

Disconnect the rectangular sensor next to the ignition coil on the right. that will make the trans shift much harder

just shift your auto manually...that alone boosts fluid pressure giving you a little more feel..

Yup. That sensor in the photo above regulates the automatic transmission fluid pressure, if I remember correctly. It was there to give auto equipped 240's nice and smooth gear changes. I disconnected it on my old '90 240 auto and it shifted with authority! The automatic transmission still sucked, though.

So that won't have any bad effects? Like no shifts or anything bad?

it shouldn't. but it wont matter that much if you are doing a swap. i wouldn't worry about how your trans is shifting. i still have a auto but i dont need it shifting hard cause i have a newer trans im my car. shift perfect!

What's wrong with wanting a little firmer shifts out of the stock trans? Until I can afford the swap I'm doing. And a firmer shifts r better on the trans clutches not alowing so much slip and I'm not running excessive power to produce a lot of shock load!

Disconnecting the wire doesn't just feel firm, its jarring. On wet road with crappy tires going from first to second, the tires actually chirped at me. I wouldn't bother.

Psst. Torque converter have nothing to do with how it shifts.

it's an automatic transmission. wtf did you expect it to do? it does that so you don't ride it in first, at high rpms, for an extended amount of time, blowing something up.

i think you guys are over thinking what's possible in your mid 90's transmission that came in a "sporty" economy car. it's not a ferrari with a clutchless f1 transmission. it's a commuter car. you want more control of your transmission, do a manual swap, or buy one that already has a manual and sell the automatic.

Yea i say just wait until you drop the new motor in it and then drop a manual trans in it your car will be out of commission for a while anyway since your going to install the new motor so just go for the auto to manual transmission swap when you do your motor. But that's my Op..Good luck

There is also this:

http://www.latentsolutions.com/suprastickuv.html

It is called the Suprastick. It was designed for the guys who have high hp Twin Turboed Supras (hence the name, lol), but can be used in almost any sport compact vehicle.

It is a standalone TCM, that can be programmed for shift points, line pressure, among a few other things, and works with a type of tiptronic system they offer, that can be installed anywhere on the car. I have a friend here in Phoenix, that has it hooked up to his Altima, and he uses the steering wheel volume controls to shift

pretty cool stuff

Thats pretty awesome. I could shift with my cruise control buttons on my steering wheel. I might put one on my koop in the future.

A lot of transmissions when its put in the first or low position will hold that gear until driver input says otherwise

i did this to my 89 today its interesting. First to second is really really hard but the rest of the gears r just a slight difference. One thing i really noticed though is that when i left off the gas my rpms drop straight to about a 1000, i dont lose any power, its remind me of in a manual car when your driving and you push in the clutch. Is that whats kinda happening here with my auto?

Not electronically controlled transmissions. They use electronic shift-points, with manual pressure backups. They do this so you dont burn the clutches for the engine. My work van is the same way. I can put her in low, but it will shift to second at WOT for a second or two.

i just did it and it worked perfectly drove just like a shift kitted trans much firmer shifts and easily broke the tire in the 1-2 so i would bother lol

Well Since The Picture Posted Was Of A S13.

Guessing The Senor You Would Have To Unplug Would Be The Longer Of The Two Actual On The Distributer Cap Itself.

Right?

Would Try It Just To See The Results, But Mine Been Stuck On 2nd For Longer Then I Can Remember...

:\

dunno about your auto, I tracked my auto coupe and it hasn't shifted out of gear. And I was redlining it, which stressed the engine so much I shredded the timing chain guide. Hitting 1st then 2nd, and approaching the turn, I let go of the gas and went to 1st then floored it again. Hard as hell, but drifting is possible. still never shifted out of the gear I put it in.

yea i figured out my prob binding likage to the trans not allowing me into manual first so it was still shifting into second then would stay in that gear
