From my experiences with VTEC engines they tend to burn more oil with Mobil 1 than with other oils. Just figured this might help find a problem. This is an open poll so if your not running something that's here feel free to add it.

Burning more than 1 qt every 1000 miles. I'm running Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic 10w30, only because that's what the previous owner has always used. Next oil change I may switch to Kendall 10w30 synthetic blend ($2.25/qt.), or something even cheaper/thicker than that.

I'm definitely going to keep my eye on this poll though. Thanks again for starting it.

Might be interesting for members to look up and study the molecular sizes of the different compounds in synthetic vs conventional.............Sythentics have a more unform and larger average size. Contrary to what most think.

you should not be burning oil if your car is still new. Burning 1qt of oil every 1k miles is really bad. If it was an older car with loose tolerances or something with about 200k miles that is different. If your car has 30k miles an is burning oil that is poor break in and very poor care of your vehicle. What I have seen at salvage yards and friends that work at dealerships tell me is the sad truth. The type of owners that are drawn towards the 350z tend to abuse their engine from day one. FWD vehicles and G/M owners tend to take better care of their engine AND their car.

I changed my oil and replaced with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 10w30 and I haven't seen any burning going on. I keep an eye on It and I haven't had a problem yet.. coming towards It's 3K change though.

I'll be going back to the Mobil 1 5w30 most likely..

I've tried different amsoil formulations and I typically burn about 1 qt in 7.5 - 9k

I switched to synthetic after 100 miles on the motor, never looked back.

So I'm burning and I've been using my honda friendly Castrol with no sucess. Go through about 1qt every 2k miles and I have no clue what the previous owners used or how it was treated.

2006 G35 Coupe, use Mobil 1 full synthetic in it and my Toyota Sequoia, neither seem to burn any oil between changes. G has 38,000 miles and Toyota has 96,000 miles.

2000 Max, 108,000 miles, it's had Mobil 1 synthetic in it since new and doesn't burn any oil. Maybe a tad, but I don't need to refill between oil changes (every 5-7k). I run 5w-30.

Mobile 1, burns a lil oil, but I think it's pretty common from what I'm learning...

My mechanic said that all VQ35DE engines that use synthetic oil, will burn a little oil, regardless. However, using more than or up to 1 quart in 3,000 miles is unacceptable. My manual says that losing 0.25 to 0.5 of a quart is normal for the VQ35DE engines. I personally drive my car hard (5,000 - 7,000 RPM), and I use Mobil 1 5w-30 Synthetic oil, and between oil changes which is 3,000 miles for me, I tend to add 0.25 of a quart into the car. Even then, I still have at 3/4 level of oil on the dip stick by the time I am ready to change my oil. I was given the revised VQ engine, which happens to be good with oil. I am pleased with the revised VQ engine--seems to have slightly more torque than original engine that came with the G-35 Coupe 6 MT.

Oil used: GTX 5w-30Syntec 5w-30Amsoil TSO 0w-30Didn't matter what oil I used from day one new. My revup VQ consumed ~1qt/2300-2500mi up untill ~28K when finally replaced with current second revised revup VQ replacement. Defective VQ so inconclusive to what oil used imo so won't vote on poll, but thought I'd share anyway. Broke-in my oem VQ per factory guidelines as well.

Fresh VQ so far so good with less than 500mi; time will tell.Using Valvoline 10w-30 DuraBlend for break-in; again time will tell with that oil.

Will update types of oil used down the road and OC or not.

Even before I switched Synthetic, I was Burning. Nissan said this is Normal.

I'm using Castrol 0W-30 German Synthec. One of the reasons why I love this before it Performs better than Mobil 1 5W-30 and it stop burning when I had my '02 Acura RSX Premium.

I just checked my Oil Level and after 3,000 km I lost about 1/3 of a liter. Should I be concerned? Will Nissan give me problems if I tell them I'm using 0W-30 instead of the recommended 5W-30, should I switch to Mobil 1 5W-30?

Thanks and Happy Holidays!
