How hard is it?

I plan on replacing the Tension Rod bushings, soon and I thought, why not just do the bushings on the Upper Links also...Should lower the cost...

You would have to source the bushings first.

Someone said that you can replace the bushings from the Z32, as the Z32 ULs have replaceable bushings... May be wrong though, however theyd likely be poly so you may think theyre too harsh?

However, there are no replacement bushings for the Q45 UL's..

Q45 and 300zx upper links have the same part number.

Anyway, NISMO sells hard rubber bushings for the upper links. That's the only source I know of.

The problem? They want around $20 for EACH bushing! That means that a set of eight of the suckers will cost as much as a new pair of upper links.

Not only will the replacement bushings cost as much as new upper links, but removing the bushings is not going to be fun.

You cannot simply burn them out like other bushings on the car. There is metal inside and I think a bearing also. So they would have to driven out from behind.

If you do go this route, please let us know how everything went.

new upper links are $100 each, but is it worth the risk? maybe?

id ask some Z32 guys and ask them what they do... still i think itd be easier to find a lightly used set of adjusties like mine..... I paid MUCH less for my adjusties

So going the adjustable route you can just replace the bushings when the get worn out? If so, seems like the way to go for sure!

Technicaly, the ones I have use bearings (which dont wear out) and they can be replaced...

BTW, you MUST use solid tension rods with the adjusties i have.

What is your concern--ultimate long life or absolutely rigid (tight feeling) front end? You CAN get unlimited life from the OEM parts with a simple modification--simply install a grease zerk fitting in each end of the llink and re-grease every 25K miles.

Takes less than 30 min total for 2 links to drill, tap, install the 4 zerks, costs less than $5 for the zerks, $5 for lifetime supply of Mobil 1 synthetic moly-sulfide grease

Where do the zerks go? A pic would be nice ... I know I asked specifically where they go already, and got zilch....as in non-specific statement like above. (simply?)

Have you actually done this or not?

I'd be afraid of drilling new ones for fear of damaging the bushings or contaminating with metal shavings. I guess I could try it with a used set and install the poly 300zx bushings?

I have attached photos. RE:shavings--use grease on bit and tap--no shavings problem. Yes I have done it successfully. Not difficult.

inboard zerk photo right side upper link 92Q45a shown--over 50K miles on rough Houston streets and terrible freeways--still has IDENTICAL movement as measured by dial indicator per FSM procedure--within 0.001"

I have to say it does work. Grease used is Mobil1 synthetic moly-sulfide (same as used on ball-joints and brake caliper sliding pins, etc.

My question also is how deep can one drill and not hit the inner journal?

Cut apart my spare (trashed) outer tie rods. They have a plastic liner surrounded by old grease. I take it the outer tie rod ends can't be made grease-able via Zerk fittings?

From what I read online sealed components are made to stay sealed...? Texasoil do you still lurk on NICO?
