Does anyone have a mainly stock 06/07 m35x (pref diamond graphite) that painted their stock rims glossy black? I searched but couldn't find what i was looking for. Can someone post a pics?

Also on my drivers side sport headlight, the clear coat film was chipped and now its starting to peel. Anyone know a place in NY/NJ area to fix this or an easy fix to do myself?

Any help would be great , thnx

If you haven't seen it, there is a vid on Fonzie's youtube channel that shows the application of a single coat of glossifier, then multiple coats of glossifier. A single coat looks best in my opinion. It doesn't have that 'wet' look of a high gloss finish, more ,ike a satin-smooth fnish.

He also has a vid that shows the black rims with a coating of pearlizer, and metalilzer. The pearlizer gives the appearance olf an anthracite coating.

Post pics when you're dne so we can all see how your final choice comes out!

Hmm, I stripped the clear coat on my rims by accident when cleaning it. I might end up use the glossifer to even out the gloss of the rims. Right now some spots have no gloss, others do.

What up. I just got my car about 5 weeks ago and i am new to this forum. The question you asked about the black rims is one i asked myself. I couldnt find any pictures of the M35 in my color, Tan... brown... whatever.... with painted stock rims.

But i did it anyway and it came out legit :yesnod I used high heat spray paint.
Primer, 3 coats of high gloss black paint, two coats of clear.
Im super happy with my results.

This is not my cup of tea, but I would appreciate someone trying to explain the concept behind it. Black rims are usually associated with base models, for those too cheap to even pay for the optional hubcaps.

I can see where a bolt-on wheel cover hiding a standard rim to make it 'look' like an actual aluminum wheel (as Toyota and Honda often do) could indicate a base model instead of the top-end model.
I've never heard that the color of a wheel has any relationship to its purchase price or trim level In fact wheels painted ANY other color than the standard aluminum is usually a sign that it has been modified/upgraded over the standard available wheels and at an extra cost.
EG: Mercedes with the AMG upgrade (at $100k often includes upgraded black wheels - hardly a 'cheap' trim level.

1st I must say I'm not a fan of black wheels.

Some do look good but only for about 15 to 20 feet, after that you really don't see them and for me it becomes a waste of money. I like to see the car & wheels as one.

I think the darkest I would get would be gunmetal or hyper silver.

IMO nothing looks better than a fat or deep chrome lip
