In the mail today, I received a letter from Infiniti stating that they will now warranty the dash for 8 years/unlimited miles. It also said that if you already paid to have this problem fixed they would pay you back.

I guess they finally figured they had enough complaints.

I have read about people saying the the dash bubbled or cracked, so I am glad they offered this up. It makes me feel better about 1) Nissan/Infiniti recognizing a problem and 2) knowing that if this happens to my FX I can get it fixed.

It's too bad Nissan didn't recognize the flaw in my Maxima. The VTC clacking happens in virtually every ve30de engine and the company turned a blind eye to the problem for all of these years. A lot of people really love these cars with this engine, but that turns them away or just irritates the tar out of them.

For anyone interested, The Dash fix is for all FX models built between 11 of 2002 and 11 of 2005 with the Black dash.
They are currently on extreme backorder so it will take a month or two to get one reserved for you.

thanks for the update. I haven't contacted Infiniti about mine. There are a couple of tiny bubbles at the edge of the front left speaker grille that just started with the warm weather a month or so ago. It doesn't bother me right now, but I know it could be a problem. I have until 2013 to get it fixed, so I can wait a while.

I don't know if it's considered a recall or not. It's not a safety issue...I am assuming it's good for any FX. You should call your local dealership and see what they say.

I got the same notice, It was a service bulletin and warranty extension to 96 months covering the defects in workmanship with the dashboard. My notice said "your new vehicle" it did not specify any particular color dash, year or model.

It's good to see that Infiniti finally addressed this problem with the FX. It's a damn shame they didn't extend this warranty to the 02-06 Q45 which also experience dash cracking/bubbling----despite being a known problem.

I just purchased an '03 FX 35 sight unseen from Texas Direct Auto. The car is in relatively good condition however there are multiple cracks all over the dashboard. I'm hoping that it will be covered by this warranty extension. Anybody have a copy of the letter you could fax or email me? It would be greatly appreciated.

There's not too much to the letter. It basically states that the warranty for the dash only has been extended to 8 years. When you get the car, call your local dealer ASAP to get it replaced. You don't need to bring the letter or anything with you. They already know about it. Do you know your vehicle's "in service" date so you can calculate how much time you have left to get it replaced? Since yours is an 03', you're getting close to end of the 8 years so hop on it as soon as you can after you get the car.

Just an update:

I had some more bubbles in the top portion of the dash, right above the steering/tilt unit, so I called my local dealership.

They took my information and had a new dash within a couple of days. Last Tuesday (8/17) I took it to the dealership. I drove home in a nice G37x and returned it on Friday evening(8/20). Dealership guys were very nice. (Beaverton Infiniti in Oregon)

However, I have two small complaints.

1) The new dash is a different material. It is more "matte" colored. They replaced both pieces on the top, but now the glove box and small trim piece that covers the tape deck don't match. It also seems to get dirty really easy. Because it is matte, I am hesitant to put any kind of cleaner on it.

2) The dealership must have removed the steering wheel, because now it's crooked. I will have to bring it back and have them put it back on straight. It's nothing pressing, but it's really annoying. I didn't notice at first because I was driving in town, rush hour on Friday for a while, so the dealership was closed by the time I realized it.

No bubbles on mine but multiple cracks, especially originating from center speaker and then one across the passenger side in the area of the airbag. Hopefully they cover cracks even if no bubbles present.

If you haven't contacted your local dealer, the number on the letter for Consumer Affairs is (800) 662-6200.

Armywife,
Not sure if the warranty covers the 2008 models. You might want to call your dealer to be sure or Infiniti Consumer Affairs. The last I heard, this covered the 2003 through 2005 build dates. Good luck ...

The warranty may extend to cover up to '08 since the dash cracking/bubbling is a common problem for FX35/45.Stay on them if they down replace your dash under warranty. The Q45 (02-06) experiences the same problems but Infiniti just ignores complaints because so few Q45 have been sold and not enough owners have presented the issue to Infiniti---allowing Infiniti to refer to this as being a non-issue. :tisk:

The curing process on the replacement dash is supposed to be better this time around.

Much better longevity but the replacement dash may seem a bit rough or textured compared to the original dash surface. It will break in over time with conditioning and smooth out.

I did not receive a letter and had bubbles. I just happened to ride by a dealer and asked them what I could do about it and he said bring it in and we will replace it. For some reason I never get letters or info from Nissan or Infiniti. I bought my car new from a dealership!

THANK GOD I found this forum. I have a 2005 FX-35 and just this summer I left the car outside the garage and the horrid bumps appeared on my dash. I called my dealer and they said "Oh SURE, you qualify for the free replacement". I'm having it done on Tuesday and maybe I'll finally be proud driving my car again. THANK YOU ALL. (obviously, no proof of being sent any announcement about the replacement dash was required. All they needed was the VIN number).

my 2007 FX35 has bumps on the dash. not that my FX is really relevant to this thread since it's an 07 with a beige interior.
