Hi ,I have problem with start engine. altima manual 08 v6.after wenn I get install underdrive pulley problem begun let say 2 weeks later, so wenn I push start button sometimes takes 3-5 seconds to engine run.and under hood I feel gas smell.if I turn off engine after start and try (start) again is no problem but after 10-15 min from turn off engine is the same problem so what could be wrong?before install pulley I didn't have any problems to get run engine take max 1 sec from push start b...... spark plugs, injectors any suggestions??? few days ego I went to dealer for change oil and after quick inspection they told me "soon You schould replace battery-they see 14.volts but should be more 15.v -cost replace battery 147 $$"-this could be problem?? I didn't tell them I have underdriv pulley and I know all accesories working slower with pulley- (alernator etc) but I don't think so this can affect much battery, because I still use stock audio system and battery works ok. please help me!!!!!

If you know how to install an under-drive pulley, you can change your own battery for cheaper. That is assuming the problem is because of that...

Sounds like maybe the fuel pump is having issues. The reason I say that is because many Sentras and other models (mine is '06) have this same problem. Cold start is perfect, but after driving around then turning off engine, then starting again 15-20 minutes later, it takes 4-5 seconds of holding the start position. I don't smell any gas, so your issue may be something else related to fuel delivery.

how long have you had the car? the stock battery is not good and even if your car is stock, most people had to replace theirs a little after a year. mine lasted me 2 years but i was just lucky. oh and if your battery dies 100%, this is how the car will sound. so dont be scared when it happens like i was

Great logic there rudzik 28. Just what part of “"soon You schould replace battery-” are you confused about?

You want more suggestions? Here is a suggestion.

I suggest you get a Chicago Transit Authority Transit Card and Pass, as you will need it to get around town because your car doesn’t start--BECAUSE OF A DEAD BATTERY.

Rudzik28 says “few days ego I went to dealer for change oil and after quick inspection they told me "soon You schould replace battery….”

Aren’t the key words he used DEALER, and SOON REPLACE BATTERY??? His dealer ran a test on the battery, and the dealer told him that the reason his car is hard to start is because of a battery that will soon fail. Fail, as in his car not starting. Fail, as in leaving him stranded.

But no, for reasons known only to him, he does not want to replace his battery. He wants to start a poll as to what forum members think could be his problem starting his car.

That really is great logic, isn’t it? Not in my book it isn’t.

“Never has anything worth while to say, he is always negative” Beak, I dare say that my advice for rudzik28 to replace his battery was in fact positive and worthwhile. More worthwhile than me saying, "Dude, that is too bad about your car."

Yes, you are correct. I am a little man with a new, fully charged battery in my Altima. I enjoy pushing the start button, and having my car start without problems.

Throck - Im not sure if your missing what he is trying to say. Ive been saying it for a long time but it was probably clouded with anger and sarcasm.

It seems like you have alot to offer, and some of the stuff you say is really informative and helpful. I think you are one of the most factual posters, you back up most of your facts and claims with some hard core proof one way or another.

But its your sense of humor or tone that makes it all for not. Its either attitude or rudeness. Im not try to start a fight, im just sayin be cool man.

i hope i didnt offend you, i dont want a fight.

oh and you bein a little man with a charge battery is pretty funny

Oh come on, Throck contributes more than you think, yeah he's crass (ultimately for the good of yinz), but I can be too... but he's no dummy...and ultimately has been through a lot of hype in prior vehicles (my guess) and realizes, stuff like butt dyno's on intakes n'at, he I'm sure hive'll give you a mpg or 2 if you are driving normal, I have got 31 on my old 350Z...I digress.

But anyway to chime in my battery is having a real rough time turning over in the cold and I got 30,100 on it, I think you can get a partial warranty on it, have to check and there is a previous thread too... but not sure its worth a drive to the stealership, depends on what your time is worth i suppose.

Not a bit of anger here, but boatloads of sarcasim. Attitude? YES! Rude? Of course I am, if I say things that you don't want to hear.

I love it when people are incapable of taking care of themselves, and rely on others to do their legwork.

Love me or hate me, I'll still say what needs to be said, and back it up with facts. Truth, like love, is sometimes painful.

Some people should post only on their Facebook, MySpace, or Tweeter accounts, that way they can avoid sarcastic, truthful, replies.

Congratuations on the purchase and installation of your new battery. You made the right choice. As you have learned from reading this forum, Nissan OEM batteries don't seem to last more than 2-3 years in the Altima. My Altima battery was less than 30 months old before I replaced it with an aftermarket battery.

You ask "OK WHAT YOU SUGGEST NOW THROCKMORTON?"

Here is what ole' Throck would do.

Since your car is a 2008 model year, it is still under the Nissan factory warranty. I would take the car to your local Nissan dealer's service department, and the repair should be free. Free, unless there is some modification that you made to the vehicle that is causing your longer than normal start time. If that is the case, you may have to pay all, or some part of the repair bill.

If for some reason you don't trust your local, or distant for that matter, Nissan dealer, take your car to a repair shop of your choosing.

Your quote "DON"T THINK YOU ARE JUST SMART GUY AND OTHERS ARE IDIOTS." is invalid. I have never said that "OTHERS ARE IDIOTS", or that I am a "SMART GUY." Logical and sarcastic? Yes I am.

Good luck with your repair.

On the contrary, his car is working. It is just taking him longer to start it after he pushes the Start button than he deems as "normal."

Could it be that this is 'normal" for his car?

if they'r just throwing in new parts they dont know how to trouble shoot. a simple fuel pressure test would've told them if it was the fuel pump, and air sensor (air temp sensor?) looking at the scan tool would tell them if it was working right. take your car somewhere else if you can cuz they dont know what their doing. did this just recently start to happen?
