recently my 89 240sx (automatic) didn't start all of the sudden.

so removed the alternator ; took it to the shop for testing & prognosis...Dead!

well I bought a new one; replaced & now i have found that the fuse which is named ...FL75/ALT... is blown. I had a spare & every time I tried to replace it i would get sparks on the fuse...I'm guessing that means there's a short some where. Oh yeah & the car starts and all but nothing inside turns on...dash is gone, no radio,no clock, head light don't come on!

here's some pics of the fuse & location..it's the slender gray 75a lower rigth corner...

well found the problem...taking some time thinking back on what could i have done to blow the alternator fuse.I figured it would have to be some stupid & obvious reason....& BAM!!... I figured it out... dumb actually. In the following pic you'll see the back of the alternator with a long screw sticking out and at its base a black plastic separator; this separator keeps the wire from fully making contact to the base of the alternator...which has already ;I believe; a small ground just below it already. Well stupid me I removed that separator & both wires were making contact with the ground Dummy!

Well replaced that separator & fuse & everything is now fine...now if you would excuse me i be hiding for a while

P.S. the alternator was the culprit after all; ! just messed up reconnecting the old one!
