I'm really impressed with the body and paint. My parents had a white one like that in the early 80s and it was rusting like mad at an early age.

Basically, they make tall sidewalls look less tall.

However, I tend to agree with you: whitewalls rarely look good on cars made after 1959. There are rare exceptions....but I don't think that truck is one of them...especially not with gray wheels.
That's the same reason I hate the new fad of rubber band tires wrapped around shiny-rimmed 20" wheels: it looks JUST LIKE whitewalls from a distance or while in motion.

should swap in a titan motor. then you can haul really big things in a little truck.

Hahahahaha. '60s Datsun frame = no towing capacity, even if it had a B52 twin jet nacelle welded into the bed.
I'd cram a 6-cyl L-series in there if I had to swap (assuming the long L will fit). LD28 in that thing would be sweet.

Anyway, its needs new tires soon as there is some dry rotting and cracking present. I'm not sure what kind of tires I'll go with as this is a budget project. Most likely it will be four used tires with decent tread that I can snag from the tire pile at work

I have never been one to be called tactful on a forum. My tact is doled out with a shotgun and a shovel.

Budget tires, I wonder how raised white letter tires would look on this truck? Its from that era when white letter tires were popular.

Shoudl be pretty easy to lift the cab and bed, do a clean and repaint of the chassis and get rid of the rest of that rust.

So I finally got around to tackling the interior.

Here's a couple before pictures. You can see the carpet looks horrible, its stained, has rust residue on it, etc etc. The door panels are a mess, the drivers side one is broken, taped, and peeling. The passenger panel has some black vinyl that is held on by two sided tape. Wiring is hanging down from under the dash. All in all it needs some love.





So we stripped out the interior, I removed and shampooed the carpet, redid the wiring, we cleaned all the metal surfaces, did the windows inside and out. detailed the dash, lubed up the sliders on the seat, and......Steph and I made new door panels We went to Home Depot, bought some 1/4" birchwood sheets and cut them to the exact specs of the factory particle board panels. Then we covered them in a nice black material to match the dash and seat. They turned out amazing, pics don't nearly do them justice.
And yeah....I've got pics of everything put back together

Jerry, to be totally blunt, and not that it matters at all coming from me since I'm a nobody, but I never really respected you much until you got this little truck and have been making miracles out of pennies.

Well I put in a little more work on the pickup today Gotta love weekends.
So I tackled some more of the interior. I had noticed that the kick plates were stained and pretty poor looking to start with and that the package tray below the glove box had some cracking and was discolored badly. After making the new door panels and cleaning up the rest of the interior, they really stood out so since I'm a perfectionist....they had to be restored a little

Here's before....you can see the whitish/faded/stained green kick panel and a little of the package tray decay


And in this one you can see more of the decay in the package tray and now the discoloration on the drivers side kick panel. Stands out pretty bad next to the new door panel huh?


So I pulled them off, did some sanding and surface prep work, made sure I had the proper paint and got to work






Had a spectator in the backyard while I was working so I put a pile of peanuts right by me and he came over and had a snack


And.....the interior back together. 100 times better yet again!




Might just have to pull the dash and refinish that as well

Also, in Ohio you can register plates to a vehicle from the year it was manufactured. We have lots of plates hanging in my garage so I dug through them and found the plates that my Dad had on his car in 1971. A little rough around the edges, but fixable


After a little work....

brilliant. Jerry, i think this truck needs to have the $200 paint job. There was a thread about it, but basically you buy rustoleum in whatever color you want and apply it with a roller. Some amazing results Ive seen. Some guy painted an old Mopar (cant remember what it was) but it turned out brilliantly... Not a show car shine but it looked great on that car, and it didnt even have any clear coat on it.

the paint looks good as is IMO. amazing work with the interior. didn't think it would come out so well. you should re-do the dash if u have time. also see if you can clean up the engine bay a bit. great work tho, keep it up!
