This is a weird thread. You probably came here thinking, "FIGHTER JETS!!" I regret to announce that this is not that case, as instead I came to bring you, commercial and private jets.

I just flew in to California with my family and found myself staring at these behemoth creatures in admiration. Some of these commercial jets actually look pretty cool to me, sporting their branding and all. Anyone else have any commercial or private planes that they particularly like for any unknown reason?

Here are some I saw that I thought were cool:

Southwest's Boeing 737. Oddly enough, the color scheme adds alot to my "liking" of this thing.

United Airlines' Embraer EMB-120 looked particularly awesome as well, with its polished engine housings:

Anyone else have any favorites? No fighter jets! Just cargo or passenger planes!

The Lockheed Blackbird is by far my favorite aircraft.

Recently featured in the latest X-men movie, it was so awesome that they wanted you to believe that nothing less than a super human could have designed it.

That thing is pretty sweet. It was in transmission 2 as well, right?
During reconnaissance missions the SR-71 operated at high speeds and altitudes to allow it to outrace threats. If a surface-to-air missile launch was detected, the standard evasive action was simply to accelerate and outrun the missile.
:rotfl Thats badass!

:rotfl I figured everyone already knows all the cool fighter planes. We look over cargo and passenger planes, which can turn out to be purdy cool.

Like the Douglas DC-3, look at this pimp thing!

It was similar to watching an old man hit on old women in a retirement home.

Wow, that thing is pretty awesome!

Older planes definitely look cooler than new ones (much like cars).

Just look at some of Hughes' old aircraft!

Of course there's the H-4 Hercules

I've been quietly searching for an old airplane propeller to put on my wall for a few months now. If anyone finds one, let me know.

I ate many meals aboard a Lockhead Cconstellation. A local businessman in nearby Penndel PA bought a retired one very cheaply in the sixties, mounted it on some sturdy poles above his restaurant about 50' iin the air and made it into a dining room. It quickly became a landmark.

A few years ago, it was sold, restored and is now in a Dover DE museum.

Dude, that's freaking awesome! I want to eat there!

Having never flown on an older passenger plane myself, how would you describe it? Was it really that much more luxurious? Has airplane food gotten any better/worse?

oldest Jets I've been on were the Boeing 707 and McDonnell Douglas DC-9, both built in the 1960's and in service thru the 80's. The older jets were not really more fancy, and the quality of the seats and room between them depended more on the class you paid for and the airline you flew.
but you gotta realize with newer jets comes more modern technology. For example, 707's did not have phones or mini video screens in the back of the headrests. But back then, meals were included as part of the ticket. Coach meals were usually pretty bad, kinda like a swanson tv dinner. Business and first class meals were generally pretty good. Fast forward to now, and meals cost extra.

So are those actually paint, or are they a vinyl wrap or something? I would think it would HAVE to be paint. What if the vinyl peeled off and got into a turbine?

I flew on one of these from Toledo to Chicago and and I have never felt more nauseous on an airplane in my entire life. If I can go the rest of my life without ever being on one again, I can die happy. Plus, it's United.

Every. Single. Time. I fly united (3 round trip flights from Japan to US only) I have had nothing but bad experiences. I will never again fly United Airlines. If there are no other flights to the destination I want for the times I need...I'll reschedule just to get out of flying United.

I've never had a good flying experience with them either. I had one that was horrible and thought maybe it was a fluke. The 2nd one was just as bad. That was ~2 or 3 years ago. So far I've been successful in not flying with them again.

i havent had too many issues with United except delays. The worst airline ever IMHO was Pan Am. It was no surprise they went bankrupt.

Yep, I toured it too. That's the Spruce Goose. I saw it many years when it was in Long Beach beside the Queen Mary. Very impressive plane. TheQueen Mary was impressive too.

Only time I genuinely enjoyed flying was TWA. In the 90s they yanked out a third of the seats and gave everyone more leg room. And Southwest is alright.

RIP, transmission World :(
