Does anyone know of an aftermarket antenna? A stubby one. I do not want to have a tall antenna that moves. I also want it to mount in the same place

You have a second antenna in the glass of the rear hatch.

I replaced my broken one with a 10" rubber whip from autozone. It fit perfectly over the hole and seals it, for extra protection i used some silicone on the inside of the hole.

^^^ what do you mean flip the adaptor around? I think I'm asking a stupid question but I don't know what/where this flip would happen...

I unplugged my antenna because I think it looks goofy. I have pretty bad reception though so I think I'm going to plug it back in...unless I learn more about this "flipping of the antenna adapter"

So when you search "300ZX antenna adapter" in Google images, you get a picture I linked to in a post in the technical section:

there are two prongs recepticles inside that cavity. Connect the factory antenna plug 180° from it's current orientation to use the other antenna. Default is the R/C car antenna out back. The other way is the rear hatch glass on t-top models, and the windshiled antenna in verts.

i just rebuilt my dead power antenna with a new mast and the bodies of two faulty antennas and motors, now it works great, i put it back in last night and didn't see anywhere else to plug the antenna cable into. maybe there isn't one for jdm :(

it would be cool to use the back window one if it's there, the power antenna works now, but goes up every time my deck is turned on for CDs, mp3s, or radio ..

Check your head unit wiring. One of my other posts here has a pin-out of the chassis side wiring. Connect your power antenna wire from your HU to the proper chassis side wiring connection.

So this "switcheroo" is the antenna wire that plugs into the head unit? That sounds simple enough to saify around. I'll pull it out and try that this weekend. I know the antenna is in the glass, you can see the wire in the top part

Yes, the bare metal piece goes into your head unit. Pull your head unit and try it out, 15 minute fix if it works

I'm sorry but I Have read this over and over and can't get it, what do u mean by "two prongs recepticles inside that cavity. Connect the factory antenna plug 180° from it's current orientation to use the other antenna"
-where are the two prongs recepticles?
-where 180* from it's current orientation?

Clearer?

The bottom piece on the left is the chassis side plug on a Z. It goes into the top adapter, which is the part I first showed. Rotate it (the chassis side plug) 180° from it's current position to use the other antenna.

Huh, it just showed up this morning. I even tried to follow the URL last night and it told me the site was unavailable or something like that. Works now though. :gotme:

Okay all this flipping and switching and antenna's in the hatch are making my head spin, when it comes to electronics and radio systems I am half retarded.

So let me try at this ( and I have a s*** aftermarket head unit that came with the car). Plugging into the back of the head unit is the two prong plug, and when it is flipped 180 degrees it will no longer use the antenna that goes up an down, and I will still receive radio signals.
MOST IMPORTANT MY ANTENNA WILL STAY DOWN?

For antenna to stay down you gotta cut the remote antenna wire, its like the remote on an amp that tells the antenna motor or amp to turn on when the head unit does

How good is the reception with the glass antenna? Anyone have experience with this?

Original Poster missed out here as it's been a while since he posted. I've got this covered. My custom made antenna exclusively for the Z. Available from me for a mere $138.95 plus $15.00 shipping and handling. Currently available in Black, red or white. Truly plug-and-play:

Maybe I should look into setting up a group buy for this.
