Hello, everyone. New to this forum but have been a lurker for over 10 years :)

Just decided to join because I'm about to purchase an R32 GTR that we just brought over from Japan. Everything is all set, titled, etc. However, my credit union is having an issue finding "accurate value" of the R32 GTR. This is understandable because of the relative lack of these vehicles here in the states.

My credit union has is trying to determine the value of the car but they're completely at a loss. There's no database stateside that is showing these cars up (internal dealership databases) so they're not sure what to do.

Anyone else have this issue? They've asked me to find a dealership to do an appraisal and I found a couple but they've never done an appraisal for an R32 so they're in the same boat. Nobody quite knows what to do in this situation.

I guess its the growing pains of these cars finally becoming legal stateside :)

Hi! I've revised your thread title to get more interest from those that would know the answer.

Your best bet would be to do hemmings and autotrader searches to establish what any on the open market now are going for. It won't be logical, people are paying way to much for rustbuckets with hand grenades under the hood, but it is the "market price" which is what you are trying to arrive at.

Thanks, guys.

The credit union has actually done quite a bit of research in the past week gathering historical data on previous R32 Skyline (GTR specific) closing sales and their respective prices. Their issue is that the market is seeing a massive fluctuation in prices and for this reason they can't determine an accurate average as there's too many outliers that can't be explained. Some GTRs they see have sold for $13,500 and others are fetching +$33,000. They've also piled up a list of current vehicles for sale but they are not reflective of true market value given that without speculation + negotiations taken into account you still don't end up with an accurate value...just an assumption of their value.

Very tricky process but worth the wait + hassles I'm going through with my guys. Once the car is in my garage I'll do write up of my experience and show the car as well.

I ran into this issue with getting insurance and registration for my Nismo. State Farm went by the value I paid as far as the insurance and the MVD clerk actually asked me to find a retail value for the car as sold when new in Japan - I just pulled it off tyndago's website lol. Neither of them asked for an accurate "market value" though and that would be hard to do given the relative newness of the cars to the US market and the different prices sellers are asking. I just did a post on the current cost of a Skyline on my blog actually: http://23gt.blogspot.com/2015/05/buying ... money.html It's basically a "whatever it goes for" point in the market right now. I think your best bet is going to several importer websites and finding a few cars of comparable mileage and condition to yours and using those as examples to build a rough estimate. KBB and standard valuation websites are going to be useless right now due to Skylines not being sold here through regular channels.

We finally settled on value of the vehicle and I'm happy to say the car has been titled/registered succesfully in Miami, FL as of today. I'll write a post very soon.

Very excited to have joined this family :)

Shoot me a PM with any questions. I'll gladly explain what I had to do with my credit union.

Also, thanks for the kind words :)
