98 QX4 won't start

Hi! It's been a while, but I need some help. I've got a 1998 Infiniti QX4 that was running fine and then one day, (while a friend was borrowing it for an extended time) it just wouldn't crank. She called and said that a AAA mechanic came out and said it needed a new distributor, what should she do. I said just tow it to my house. Well, when it got to my house the distributor was actually out of the engine lying in the floorboard! My friend is actually gone now, returned to Africa as a missionary.

So, I buy a new distributor and install it today. I make sure I"m at TDC and the rotor button is aimed at #1 cylinder. Reinstall and give it a shot, nothing. It turns over, but doesn't even try and start. I've got 1/2 tank of gas and it was a good strong battery. I double checked the plug wires to ensure they were installed correctly and still nothing. I even stuck a screwdriver in the #1 wire and held it close to a steel bolt hoping to get a spark to arc out of there - nothing.

I don't know what else to do? Anyone got any ideas?

Start with pulling the OBDII codes.
