I have a 97 I30 and cannot figure out how to remove the high mount brake light from the rear deck of the car. I had my windows tinted and the tint shop cut the tint around the light instead of removing it and tinting the whole window. The manual says it should slide back and up, but it doesn't budge. Don't want to put too much pressure on it and brake it. Another person said to pry the cover off at the seam. This doesn't seem to work either. The only screws I see from the trunk are two bottoms of the screws which look like they are screwed in from the top of the rear deck lid through the brake light.

I want to temporarily remove this so I can have the tint redone on the rear window.

Any help would be appreciated...

Dave

It should slide toward the right side of the car, then rotate clockwise slightly to clear the bracket.

Procedure is in your Car Owner's Manual, page 8-31 - push lamp housing towards rear of window and lift at the same time. It will then pop out.

I just replaced the bulb in our 97 I30. The bulb type is 921 and a pair at Autozopne is @ $5. There are 3 hooks at the back and and 2 at the front of the lamp housing. Hence, you have to push towards the back and then lift up to release the front hooks. Once the front hooks are free, then you can pull out the housing. Just be careful as the cable is short.

Hey! (New to these Forums)
I have a 98 I-30 and I replaced my Third (Cyclops) brake light bulb a while back. Strange thing I noticed. (I keep most of my replacement bulbs for home in the same drawer.) The replacement bulb was the same as a Malibu lighting (low voltage outdoor lighting) bulb. They were much cheaper and I got them at OSH. Worth looking into.
