Anyone have a write up on how to swap a timing chain? I can get a car for 600 that needs it done and i would like to know what it takes. All comments welcome.

I don't have a FSM for that year, and I couldn't find anything searching a few resources. Your best bet would be to look at a Chiltons or Haynes manual. Barnes and Noble (or another book store) or your local library may have one you could look at.

Well i have the 94 FSM, but it should be similar to the 92 since i dont recall any major changes in the 3rd gen maxs. First you have to remove the radiator, egr, all the hoses, Then intake manifold collector, Heater pipe, injector assembly, intake manifold, drive belts, compressor and alternator, idler pulley, both exhaust manifolds, rocker covers, both exhaust camshafts, cylinder head, water pipe, oil pan, crankshaft pulley, and the chain covers and u have access to the 3 chains. This is real brief as the FSM is more detailed in steps.

If you do this you will get to know the engine quite well. Hope this has helped.

I've got the third gen Chilton manual. I'll try and scan the timing chain replacement section later today.

It should be the same on all 92-94 SE's (pre 92 SE's had VG30E's and not VE30DE's and therefore had timing belts rather than chains).

Sorry, the scan I was going to do didn't work out...my parent's scanner is messed up (I told them not to buy HP...).

You can find the book at pretty much any parts store, and it's a great resource. I recommend just buying it.
