According to this, it does not:

http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INTERS ... Item=FAQ#3

However, I will check today when I go out to see if my v7.7 maps have Hawaii. I'm assuming it won't though.

Confirmed. No Hawaii. Or Alaska. Just 48 states and Canada.

Your Nav set is a total of FIVE DVD's and ours requires only 1 DVD. Can't work out why a 2011 needs 5 DVDs, but that's why the increased price I'm guessing.

Out of curiosity... what's to stop someone from using this and reselling after? I've got the 2011 M37 and I can't imagine it keeps all 5 discs for the update.

Simple, installation requires a password that you get when you order that is keyed to the Unit ID for your nav system you have to supply when ordering.

I take it that you have the older version that only requires the one disc? Apparently the US is 5 times as big now and requires 5 discs ;)

I hesitate to burn one though... I did this once years ago for my mom's Lexus RX and jacked up the entire navi...

And now that they have gotten that security hole out of the way, they have upped the price $100

First off, WangTang, we do not condone piracy on here. No one can stop you from using PM's to talk about that, but in the open forum community, cut it out. Second of all, I highly doubt you have the 7.8 version DVD. More than likely you have the 7.7 version which is the previous year.

Anach, the newer cars are hard drive based I believe. The system uses the files differently, which may be why it requires so many discs as opposed to one DVD for the older models. I haven' sat in a new M, but it could be anything from improved graphics, more POI's for the newer cars, etc. that add up. With the way computers are now, filling up gigs of space is pretty easy.

Anach - I had to buy a dual DVD disc as it didn't fit on a regular DVD disc. It even working fine.

I have a 2009 M35 with Nav and have never not been able to find a street in the NorthEast. What do the upgrades help with? Do they help with voice recognition or finding a specific type of store like a Dunkin Donuts?

BTW, I used Mapquest (free) on my Iphone for all my Navigation needs around San Fran metro area a few months ago. It worked amazingly well, adjusted for traffic issues and found any business like a phonebook. The only difference between MapQuest and my M navigation was the larger screen. Personally, the Ms need to allow mirroring of smartphone screens on the vehicles integrated screen.

It introduces new roads and new locations like a dunkin donuts that just opened, a new star bucks, walmart, etc.

Just updates the roads and points of interest. For example, here in Albany they are going INSANE with traffic circles (which I like - except many American drivers, who are EXTREMELY slow, don't understand them. I'm European so I prefer them). New navigation maps have updated some of the intersections to circles.

I love America, but this country has some of the worst drivers known to man. I'm considering getting a motorcycle and every time I think about the drivers I'll be up against I almost decide not to. /rant

Just ordered mine! It's about 5 years old, so I was due for an upgrade. They changed some of the intersections around here last year, so hoping that will show up on this years version.

THE NEW 2013 HDD v8.6 FOR 2008-2010 MODELS IS ALSO ON SALE FOR $99.00 (REG. $149)

Just checked out the NAVTEQ site to see if the HDD update is available and noticed that it is on sale until June 30, 2013 for $50.00 US off the regular price. I just ordered my copy, since I still have the original 2007-08 version that came with my car. I have started to notice more missing (new) streets and outdated or missing points of interest, so thought it was time to bite the bullet and pay to get it updated.

I checked with my dealer and they will charge me $110.00 CAN plus tax to do the download, once I give them the code that I got with my confirming email. I would do it more often if the price was more reasonable, so only doing it every 4 or 5 years is my way of protesting and making the average price per year more in line with where I think it should be! If the total cost (code + install) was in the $100 range, I would probably do it every year or two.

By the way, I notice that the 2008-10 model year HDD version does apparently include Alaska and Hawaii, as well as Canada and the 48 contiguous states, but not Mexico, and also allows voice recognition for both Canada and the US. The 2006-7 model DVD system apparently does not include Alaska and Hawaii and also does not allow use of voice recognition for points in Canada, just the US. That explains why some guys on the forum from Canada with 2006 and 2007 Ms were unable to use voice recognition on their Nav here in Canada.

I know I will never get to Hawaii or Alaska with this car. It would involve expensive shipping to Hawaii and I would not subject my M to the roads to get to Alaska - they are brutal. For those of you who live in those two states (and both are beautiful!) this is obviously important.
