2013 EX37 auto downshift in manual mode

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Does anybody know how to disable the automatic downshifting of the transmission in manual mode?

I think you may be confusing Sport Mode with Manual Mode.

When you move the shift lever to the left from Drive, it puts you into Sport Mode, not manual mode. In Sport Mode, the transmission still shifts automatically, but it holds lower gears longer than in Drive Mode.

If, from Sport Mode, you move the lever forward or back to manually select a higher or lower gear, that puts you in Manual Mode and the transmission will hold the gear you select until you move the shift lever back or forward to select another gear, or move it to the right to return to Drive Mode.

Thank you, John, my problem is that I don't like the transmission to downshift in the manual mode ( the car is in manual mode after I pull or push the lever in the DS mode) by itself. The reason is that sometimes when I downshift, the car also downshifts, resulting in a big rush of RPM.

I thought in maual mode, the driver controls the shifting, both up or down. In the case of the EX37 (pobably EX35 as well), the car will take over the downshifting, no matter what the driver wants.

I still like to know if there is a way to disable that. The dealer says no.

Is it downshifting while you are doing something other than decelerating (like coming up to a stop sign or red light)?
Mine does not downshift in M mode unless my foot is off the gas and I am coming to a stop... then it goes from 3 to 1 and skips 2... if I put it in 2 before it goes from 3 to 1, it will stay in 2 until I come to a complete stop.

Maybe 5 speeds and 7 speeds act differently?
